I have heard about something called BOB in Eve Online. I do not know what that means, so I need someone to explain the meaning to me. I am a new player in the game. I do not know every aspect of the game, but I am learning. Are those BOBs important to the actual game-play? Ever kind of help is always welcomed and very appreciated.

I am also new to the Eve Online universe. I have heard about those BOB, and I found that it stand for Band Of Brothers. It is some kind of alliances between many players and their groups. Every BOB has its leader that is looking after the group. In addition, in every BOB in Eve Online you can have many friends, which can help you. To me, this is similar to a guild in other MMORPGs. But, in this game, guilds are making alliances, so they can have more fun playing.

BOB is one of the large Power Blocks of eve VS RedSwarm (GoonSwarm & Red Alliance) They are currently pushed back into delve their home region.

The alliances in 0.0 often band (phun) together to create a coalition then move to take over more space. Recently its alot harder to take 0.0 space due to cyno jammers plus titans.

BoB stands for Band of Brothers. This is an alliance of several corporations numbering about 2500 players total. They live around 0.0 Delve area (where Blood Raider NPCs live). This puts them in top 5 largest alliances in game.

The alliance prides itself on being the most uber 1337 alliance in game. A lot of their players have been playing EVE a long time, so they have a lot of money, experience, and skill points between all of them. They have some cool guys but also their fare share of arrogant whiny hardcore players who are just too addicted to EVE. BoB's leader SirMolle has also been sort of role playing this evil alliance leader. He likes to make these huge grandiose and very arrogant posts on forums saying pretty much that BoB is going to conquer all of 0.0 space.

There was a scandal about 2 years ago where it was revealed that several members of BoB leadership are cheaters and also get inside intel from CCP. A player hacked their out of game forums and got access to all their private messaged on that forum. It was revealed that several of their members buy/sell characters and ISK on eBay and internally within the alliance and share accounts, all of these things being against the EULA. The messages also showed some BoB members received info about an event prior to it happening.

It was also revealed that there was a developer called T20 who had a character in the alliance. Eventually it was discovered that he's a dev in which case he has to part with his character and leave alliance. So he did, but before leaving he gave them six tech II blueprints. Tech II blueprints cost a lot at that time and could bring in a lot of profit. It was discovered that this guy abused his GM power to pretty much spawn these blueprints for himself.

So there was a huge outrage, total smackfest over the forums, some people quit and other took arms to go and kill BoB. Mind you a lot of people cheat in game, it's inevitable, but it was BoB leadership who got exposed for it by this hacker who accessed their internal forums.

So they started a coalition of several alliances. After fighting for about a year they took all regions from BoB except for Delve. At this point the Coalition has started to fall apart internally. Some of their members turned on each other. Part of it was just poor leadership of whoever was leading it and difficulty of organizing so many alliances and keeping them interested in pushing for the same goal. People just burned out. And part of it was internal spies, BoB spies, other spies, who were working on dismantling the coalition and turn it onto itself. This is not to say that Coalition didn't have spies in BoB - they did - just that it is easier to make a coalition of several alliances to fall apart than one alliance members of which have been playing together for many years.

So they didn't kill BoB completely and right now there's a certain period of stagnation where everyone's just not playing EVE all that much due to final exams, summer, and good weather outside Laughing ... when fall comes we're going to see renewal of conflict.

do you mean bobbits?
they are a rare creature that live underground.
or one of the longest standing alliances that most of eve has a vendetta against for some reason or another because they're alliances couldn't hack it.

Pretty much this, but the fundamental "brick wall" as the analogy goes was that BoB basically just took multiple titans into systems to guard the cyno jammers (used to keep capital ships, the key element in system attacks, from being able to enter the system). Basically BoB turned the war into something totally unfun and really depressing: so the coalition partially fractured and partially said "f**k this, let's go do something fun until CCP makes some changes".

Also, to think that BoB and/or spies dismantled the coalition is rather hilarious. When BoB was all the way into Tenerifis, everyone was fighting because it was easy to get there and it was their homes, when they got to Delve it become a "well they're almost dead, so I don't need to show up" and this was the ultimate nail in the coffin.

My two cents, but the period of stagnation has begun with all sides building up titans, motherships, capital fleets and the like. Everyone knows there is going to be a fundamental change which will make POS warfare fun again (CCP has been think-tanking this for over a year now), so it's just a matter of time before the RedSwarm Federation (the major entity comprising the Southern Coalition) goes to war with the Greater BoB Community (basically BoB and pets).
