I've been playing EVE for just a few months and although I liked it a lot I had to quit since I've had to go abroad on some business for a year. When I got back, I read that the new EVE expansion supports player inventions and I was thinking about reactivating my account but then I read that the inventions system isn't really functioning. I've been away again for about three months and now I'd like to start playing EVE again but first I would really like to know if invention has been fixed now.

No it hasn't. If you want to know more bout what went wrong and what / when / how do they plan to fix it you should go here:http://myeve.eve-online.com/devblog.asp?a=blog&bid=415
Most of the people were really excited about the whole inventing thing and it was a major letdown I have to say. Anyway, EVE is still good and you should reactivate account, if it's still possible, or make a new one for sure.
