I like to play it on the safe side and so I decided that I’ll be engaging in some mining rather than chasing pirates. I just wanted to know how exactly do the mining lasers work? Is there some kind of ‘Mining guide’ available for download? Thanks a bunch for any help!

The explanation offered on the official EVE website is quite enough for a newbie I think. But perhaps at the later stages, you might want some more help. I think that there is a section on Wikipedia that’s entirely dedicated to mining in EVE. You should try and find it. And there should be some other sites that you can find doing a google search I suppose since EVE has a lot of devoted players.
