I’d like to find out more about skills system in EVE before I open my account. Perhaps someone could explain to me how the skillpoints are gained and how exactly each skill affects the character. If there is some kind of a list or table explaining this I’d be really grateful.

I’m not sure what it is exactly your looking for but this may help: http://support.eve-online.com/Pages/KB/Article.aspx?id=167 . It’s the official EVE webpage’s guide to all things about skills. Anyway, their webpage is really good and even if you don’t find what you wanted on the exact place I pointed you too, they have a good search engine and a good FAQ so I don’t doubt you’ll get the info you need.
