Apparently this elite single-culture phenomenon in Europa is far superior. We should ask our whale-eating sewer touring Norwegians if they agree.

Despite the fact that those are both traditions and thus traditional?

Culture can be many things, it doesn't have to be a 500 year old building, or an ancient tradition. When I get on a streetcar, there's min 40 nationalities on it, I can get off at china-town, Greec town, Italian "quarters", etc. I can enjoy an authentic meal of any sort I'd like that day, find *any* spice, *any* dish.
Modern architecture might not be as impressive as Gaudi to you, its *is* culture.
Don't get me wrong, I loved to live in Europe, hop on a 40 Euro flight to Rome or Glasgow, Spain or France, I *love* the galleries, musea, and rich culture we have, but N-America has its own, new-er, and mixed culture that I also appreciate.

"Culture" is a foggy term used by inferior eurotrash nations to attack America. Basically it means we're not as old as them. We don't have a "culturally rich" history that includes such wonders as the holocaust, Spanish Inquisition, the plague, monarchies, beheadings, etc. We don't live in the past and, given Europe's shady history, I don't see why they would want to either. I guess they really have no choice. America is defining the future, while Europe has nothing to cling to but its old buildings.
Of course, the suggestion itself that America has no culture is a notion so ridiculous that only hasbeen Eurotrash could conceive it.
We have the world's largest library...more significant than Alexandria's in its day.
We are the #1 exporter of culture in the world. Europe eats it up. They especially love skin-changing homosexual pedophiles.
Every city and town has hosts of museums. From the Guggenheim to MOMA to "the thing" at Stucky's.
We have the largest museum complex in the world, containing over 142 million objects on display.

American culture is hard to define, but it definately exists. Whether its watching a football game with family/friends, or an actual holiday like Thanksgiving.. anyone who denies that America has culture is as ignorant as those who stereotype that all europeans are the same...
Frostkiss said it well.. we blended other cultures at first, and made our own unique way of life that I for one am proud of. (I'm not proud of everything American *cough* Bush.. but dont diss or fail to recognize our culture)

"European culture" does not exist you fools.
Europe is a unit that exists geographically and economically and maybe in a smaller way, politically.
But culturally? no.
It's comprised of lots of smaller countries who all have different cultures and different customs and different holidays. I would say there is much more diversity between countries in Europe than between various states in the US.
"Europe" doesn't have any 'national' holidays for the sheer fact (DUH!) that it isn't a 'nation' (DUH again). Anyone pointing that out as a sign that we (as in Europeans) don't have any sort of culture is a farking idiot.
No, Europeans don't have one single culture, but the Dutch do, the French do, the Germans do, the Italians do and so on.
And the first person who says that "if we hadn't come rescued you guys in WW-whatever you would have been speaking German and have German culture whine whine blah blah" needs to get slapped in the face with at least 10 dozen dead stinking horses. I curse you in advance and hope you and all your offspring die in a f*****g fire.

You know, after giving it a little thought. You might have ended up speaking japanese.
The germans might have cut europe up a little, and gave the japs Holland.
You never never can tell, them germans were so crafty. Shit, look at all the great meats they cook.
But that takes us right back to the main thing, the most important thing.
The Mighty US of A, saved europe's collective ass!!!!!!

Thats funny for you to say.. just 10 years ago when visiting Holland, my friends 70 year old grandmother was telling us how much the people who were around owed to the US and British armies/marines for saving them. I'll take her word over someone who wasn't born until the 1970 or 80s, no offense meant.

And?
Way to take a quote out of context ;p
I've said before MORE than once over the years I've posted on these boards (& Abiworld etc) we owe the US a debt of gratitude for their involvement in the war. If they hadn't, it possible that I wouldn't exist. My grandmother was bombed twice and almost starved to death, my grandfather narrowly escaped Germany after being deported and had a limp from being shot. That however doesn't have to do anything with this thread.
I'm just a bit sick of every 15 yr old kid, and some adults that have the mind of one, on here making the same point over and over on topics that aren't even really directly related to any WW other than in a broad historical sense that applies to just about everything.
Yes history is important. Yes it impacts even todays world. But you don't have to take every opportunity to come back with the same old argument time and time again, just because a topic touches on Europes geography in the smallest way. And I MEAN *smallest*. It's annoying and diverts attention from what people are discussing. Not everyone has a Euro vs American mindset.
As soon as anyone says the word 'Europe' there are people who start up about the WW's. It's the equivalent of having the Euro's b******g about how you guys murdered the Indians every time you say the word America. I haven't seen that happen so maybe we could just agree on being allowed to use the words America and Europe without everyone and their brother dragging up 2 or more centuries of past into a thread?
Just... maybe?

Everyone has pride in their country's achievements. I don't think i've ever used it in an argument with you on this board ever unless you brought it up first like this one! It's usually to rub it in the noses of the idiot USA bashers like ballsack (scrotum) telling us how great Norway is, except we actually did something worth a shit! Besides I loved visiting Holland, was my favorite place in Europe, followed closely by Germany.

Yeah of course, Americans have a lot to be proud of. It's just a shame that being proud of America for a lot of people inherently includes bashing other countries. It's not just "I'm great", it's "and that means I'm better than you" that rubs people the wrong way.
This goes for plenty of Europeans too btw.
I am no USA basher, but that doesn't mean I'm criticism-free. It's a shame people don't differentiate between the two.
And as a side note: any Dutch person, including me, who laughs at America for having an idiot like Bush as a leader, should shamefully cower in the corner, because our own prime minister doesn't rank far behind on the moron-scale. The only difference is we don't have bombs hah. I <3 Holland =D
