Now THAT'S funny. I'm starting to believe the Rolling Stone profile of Cheney more and more: he's not a devious genious; he's just a moron with the right friends.

Heh you get your info from the daily kos? Here is a little tidbit from Markos Moulitsas Zúniga, who runs the site. Remember when the contractors got pulled out of their trucks, killed, strung up, and burned to death in Iraq? Here is his comment. He refers to the contractors as "mercenaries":

Let the people see what war is like. This isn’t an Xbox game. There are real repercussions to Bush’s folly.

That said, I feel nothing over the death of merceneries. They aren’t in Iraq because of orders, or because they are there trying to help the people make Iraq a better place. They are there to wage war for profit. s***w them.

Really classy guy. After it was posted, the Kerry campaign dropped all links to his site off their web page.

The only reason Edwards ran for President, is because he knew there was no way in Hell any of us in NC would have voted him in for another term. He was never there...he spent more time promoting himself then his state...

I assume you are trying to use the character of the person running the site as a meaningful indicator of the truth of the statement? A fine logical fallacy.

If you'd like to review the primary sources, feel free. Here's one:

No, I find KOS as an undependable primary source. It is a tabloid. It consists of extremely biased and often unsupported opinions, many of which are so far out there I would not be surprised to see reports that "Big Foot was appointed as Secretary of the Interior". And yes, the person's character running the site does have an impact. It is like saying, "Stalin said this so it must be true." (An over-exagerated analogy but it relays my point.) If he has so little regard for people's lives then what else would he have little regard for to push his agenda? Personally, I base my own opinions on more dependable sources that can be readily verified.

Your primary source shows 1 day. Show me Cheney's entire attendance record (from a non-partisan source) for the last four years. Unlike Senators, voting records won't show attendance accurately since the VP can reside at the House and not have a vote required.

Spin spin spin

So is it true or not? Did he or did he not preside over the Senate but twice?

Honestly, it would be hard to say. The VP vote is only required for deadlocks. Senate voting is a lot easier to track since the primary roll for a Senator is to vote on bills.

You'd have to look through the record for every day to verify attendance. The KOS site is only doing it for Tuesdays (since they are trying to disprove that Cheney was in the Senate on Tuesdays compared to Edwards). Even if they did it for all four years, it still would not accurately reflect attendance. Heh, I think they are missing the point that it is Kerry and Edwards' job to be there to vote. Even if they proved Cheney was not there more Tuesdays than Edwards, it would still not deny the facts that Kerry and Edwards have poor attendance/voting records.
