|
|
|
What is everyone using to edit mpeg video? Not looking for anything fancy... I just want the ability to separate small clips from larger files or edit out parts of a larger file and stich everything back together.
I had adobe premier awhile back.. It was kind of a cumbersome IMO, and the torrents I am seeing now are for premier 7 which is winXP only (WTF).

I use virtualdub for all my video editing, it works with most video file types, but is mostly for avi, so I dunno.

Windows Movie Maker can do what you are asking.
Standard Windows XP install has it tucked away in the start menu.
Start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> Windows Movie Maker
1) Import the vid you want to chip up.
- WMM will chop it up into useable chunks for you. (It looks for suitable breaks and "just does it".)
2) Lay the clips you want into the storyboard.
- Right-click the clips to see what effets you can use. (Brightness up/down, fades, flips, ect.)
3) Click and drag the leading or trailing edges of the clip to crop.
4) There is a obsure button in the embedded preview window that lets you choose exactly where you want to split a clip if you need to.
WMM is really like MSPaint compared to Photoshop. When you zoom into a storyboard for the timeline, you are rescrticted to .03 second sections for where you get to "drop the needle" (vinyl record term). Better editors will allow you to get closer.
It's a decently powerful editor, standard with your WindowsXP install.
