What do you think the average time is for a expert player to get a character to level 70?

Calculate the number of hours times the minimum US wage, and you have what the character should sell for or cost to purchase.

Most level 70 characters are on sale for a little over 300 USD and more based on items attached to the character.

US Federal minimum wage is 5.85, lets say it takes a expert player 2 weeks to get a character to level 70 with 12 hrs of game play per day.

12 x 14 x 5.85 = $982.80

Now thats 3 times what the characters sell for on most sites. And most players aren't expert and it takes much more time for them to get to 70. Sometimes even months based on time available to play.

MMO characters are niche item, the true cost might be even more or less based on the purchasers idea of 'value'.

the link is about wages in China and India, now a skilled worker in China makes about 24K USD per year.

minimum wage calculations in costly chinese cities is around 100 USD per month. Thats 3.33 USD per day.

Intriquing. Lets see it averages me 20 days playing time to get to 70 per character, I have 2.

So 20 x24 = 480 hours x $6.00 = $2880 man that would be awesome if icould sell my account for that lol.

When you look at opportunity cost of different demographics of players ranging from your average teenager to a highly paid professional. The 'value' of the character can be great.

A highly paid professional who on average makes upwards of 200 USD/hour, the cost in spending the time to get the 70 mark can be great.

Just calculate 2 weeks of pay for the professional. It would be upwards of 10,000 USD. Now for your minimum wage teenager, the character would be worth only a tenth of that.

The other question becomes why doest it matter even getting to 70, when the whole point of the game is to enjoy the process in getting a character to 70 whether it takes 2 weeks or 2 years.

Eventually the whole experience can be non stimulating, and further area expansions fail to garner the same degree of excitement.

The next phase in game development is to create a MMORPG out of new graphics engines like CRYTEK/Cryengine2, where environmental effects are far reaching similar to the approach that Dark n Light tried to implement but failed for other reasons.

Umm but the thing is ive seen a dude play well over 100 hours a week. his been doing it for 3 years and has a LOAD OF MONEY!!!!! He makes well over what most people do in regular jobs by far.

Your Math
5.50x13x7= 500$ a week

My freind
5.50x14x7+(GearTips)= 700$ a week

His got a guild that does kara 3 times a week and wipes maybe once per run. He just gets all sorts of kara gear and sells it.

My buddies powerleveled 4 characters with 1 70 (they started with a necro and went to a warrior after around 40) and they did it in 1 weekend to 63, then played up the next week. I don't know that it can be done much faster, but you would be getting 4 characters to 70, not just 1. Although its several peoples time - if you were 1 person 5boxing it could be interesting.
