|
|
|
| Quote: | A Californian teenager was sentenced to three years for defrauding users of eBay's auction services. The 19-year old, Cole Bartiromo, was ordered to pay $20,000 back to his victims and spend 33 months in prison.
The teenager pleaded guilty in February to putting items up for sale on eBay, collecting payment and not sending out the goods. He was also found guilty of bank fraud for trying to convince a Wells Fargo employee to wire $400,000 to an offshore account he had set up.
Newsletter
Bartiromo has previous form: as a 17-year old high school student he obtained $1m from investors who believed his claim to offer "risk-free" bets on sporting events. The Securities and Exchange Commission were less convinced and made him pay investors back $900,000. ® |

And that is what you call making a legal precedence

So he netted 100,000 from the betting scam. He will probably end up spending a few months in prison, so it sounds like he ended up winning in the end.

No wire fraud was commited if you read it. It was attempted wire fraud, if that.

That's actually only from other things. It's after being convicted you can't make any money from future things concerning your crime (such as Books, Made for TV Movies, Interviews, etc).

actually...
he'll lose the cash he got from the crime..and he can't make money while he's in jail on tv, books, etc..
but once he's out, he can make money off books or whatever, if anyone's stupid enough to buy it...
