I'd like to write an ncurses interface to EQ. Sort of a top-down MUD style view of the game. This way I could SSH to my home machine and play EQ from anywhere.
Here's a mock-up of the general idea:

The ultimate test would be raiding and xp groups of course.

wtf, why am i not in there?
I should be dead in a corner or something.
Oh, and that'd be cool. Especially if I could play from my cell phone.

Seems possible but the problem is that you'd probably have to write your own maps for it. Which would take forever as I'm sure you realize...

I think the hardest part about it would be getting the locations of the walls, you could use the maps I guss, they have good data on that stuff, actuly then you would just have to read the mob info from the EQ memory and Macroquest has been able to do that for a while, hmm I think you could do it.

Yep. That is quite difficult unless you could write a program to parse the information in the EQ data files (something like that eq hack that lets you run around all the zones but using that info to create maps)

no thats the beauty of the map files that are used for the ingame maps, they are just txt files that describe lines

It's not exactly genius work. :p Besides, what do you really care about a 5x5 foot (or whatever it ends up being) block size in the game anyway? I mean as long as the console tool can keep your toon in melee range.

Getting into melee range is something a macro can easily accomplish without anybody at the computer.

The intent isn't to be a perfectly fine-tuned EQ tool. Just something which gives you enough movement control so you can play something easy like a cleric or rogue!

Since when are there enraged rabbits in Skyshrine?
And why is everyone's mana at 76%?
And what's that happy face? There are no happy faces in EQ they are all too busy being cockblocked by BC

The leatherfoot medic in Nek Forest will still heal you when asked. This is an excellent source of free healing for low level players who have manastones.

Often times rangers will fail to stay at their keyboards. This is no great loss, however when the Wood Elves try to navigate back toward the group they eventually die.

Augustus was the obese boy in the movie, and he has since gone on to lead a very fulfilling life.
