If anything your framerate will further drop. From what I gather it's more an attempt to make the game look less like shit than increase rendering performance. If they were interested in how fast you could run the game they wouldn't have put 2k polygons into every model including boxes.

You mean, instead of having doom-era graphics, EQ is taking a huge jump forward all the way to doom 2-era graphics?

Considering they f****d up on a few lines of code and made tons of people unable to play by just releasing an expansion I forsee weeks of downtime when they actually try and update the engine.

I look at it like when SoL came out, alot of people had to do major computer upgrades just to get EQ to run. I forsee the same thing happening this time also.

It will boost alot of peoples performance.
Even the best ATI cards run like geforce 1 cards because eq puts most of the pressure on the cpu, and doesnt take advantage of any of the ati cards boosts, but takes advantage of "some" of geforce cards advantages.
It should at a minimum give ati card users their moneys worth out of their card, wether they bog it down with crap models or not.

If it takes strain off the CPU, the engine will be focused more on the your graphics card (which in my case is good) so polygon rates should be drawn better.

Hell i started playing EQ again this week just for s***s and giggles (I quit around luclin) and I was stunned by how much faster and smoother the game is now. It runs a hell of a lot better than when I last played heh.

Trust me, it won't help much unless they implement some sort of LoD system that will allow model/terrain simplification, even that won't go far enough for EQ.

Even if they manage to up the framerate, it will still look like s****y polygonal models.

I think they remodeled the entire thing, its not suposed to be like the sol upgrade just a complete overhaul of everything, going through every zone and remodeling it all.
