Oh yeah, this one is clearly going to be different from SOE's track record of unrushed, bugless products. I don't even have the heart to lol at this move.

Yes, it smacks of "Let's get it out before Blizzard releases WoW, so we can milk as much money out of it as possible before people find out it's a piece of shit and WoW is a better game!"

I take it you never knew the glory of PlanetSide? Before you think about buying it, stop, stab yourself in the eye with a pencil, it's the same thing.

Sony's never been afraid to release broken content and half finished expantions. They love to balence it on the fly, welcome to the EQ2 public pay for beta! That's the beauty of mmorpgs, they're never finished products

Gameplay wise the game isnt buggy.
Its really lag and server performance (and they said they'll patch that fix this week) that needs to be stomped out.
The game is ready imo for retail.

PS tanked the minute they nerfed surge and slowed down gameplay to a crawl and made surgile non-existant. SOE basically handed their balls to all the newbs who played and bitched out of making a skill based FPS.

They currently have 4 servers, two of those for german/french beta, for like 50,000 people. I'm surprised it's running as well as it is now.
In WoW all I heard was "omg stfu it's a stress test!" - well, guess what SoE has been doing for a while now... why do you think they only had one server until a couple weeks ago.
There's obviously still some work for them, but the game is definatly ready for release.
On another note: OoW has actually been a pretty good expansion, most complains are from people simply burnt out (which is understandable), but not due to bugs or other content issues.
If you think EQ II is the casual player's dream, feel free to try and race for lvl 50 - there'll even be a page keeping track of your progress, and if you're the first one to discover an item this is also noted. Yep, every newbie searching SoE's database (similiar to magelo, but better - currently only accessable if you're in beta) will see your name next to the item, and the day on which you discovered it.
It's funny to see 'casual players' complain about the difficulty, then check their profile and see they play 9hrs a day. (Yes, you can flag it so others can't see it - but where's the fun in that.)
If you love quests, there's a top 10 list for you to make it on as well.

EQ has a far more interesting storyline, very cool background history and it continues to be interesting by making the story evolve with new expansions, i think verant did a great job on that part. Besides who wants to be an orc grunt when they could be an ass kicking troll. OR who wants to be a lousy human when they can be a GNOME! We all know gnomes make the difference from EQ and WoW. Just think, they make EQ more fun. Then think about night elves, pphhht night elves, look at DARK ELVES they are way cooler. Same goes for any other race/class you could get in eq, it just feels cooler and more engrossing. Just compare the storyline of the dragons in velious, and compare that to the whole warcraft storyline, eq destroys it. Meanwhile the velious storyline is just a small portion of the game....
Also this is sonys second stab at MMORPG so you know its going to be more refined than WoW.

dude remember when EQs story randomly went to the moon and then later all the gods just randomly openned up their planes for no f*****g reason at all..that was just pure greatness, shakespeare couldnt write it any better.
Seriously anyone who thinks EQs story post velious was anything other than absolute random retarded shit deserves to get their head cut off by a muslim.

Maybe you should present some facts instead of just cutting my head off.
The planes of power expansion was interesting with the storyline of the gods fighting, and noble groups of people fighting these creatures. You should read some npc quests, basically every quest is a storyline in its own.
I like what they have done with WoW storyline however they did build a neat background for the game, i read that link you gave me and it was a good read, still not as vast as eq is but thats because its been around for years. Much better than the original warcraft. The Warcraft series seemed not nearly as good as Starcrafts storyline in the acutal games.
Still WoW has a long way to go before it can be a rich storyline with hundreds of charecters, backgrounds and events like EQ already has. They even make EQ books now, however warcraft novels have been around for a while now.... We both could go on and on, I guess we will know when we play the games...
