taken from the BBC - guess all Euros don't suck after all, this guy rocks *g*

Quote:
Pizza man fined for war racism

A Danish pizzeria owner who refused to serve German and French customers because of their countries' position on the Iraq war has been convicted of racial discrimination.

Aage Bjerre, who owns Aage's Pizza in Nordby on the tourist island of Fanoe, was fined 5,000 kroner (673 euros).

Mr Bjerre, 44, said he would appeal, but would rather go to prison than pay the fine.

I feel that I was convicted for supporting the coalition
"I don't want to sell pizza to people from those two countries," he said.

"Every day I turn tourists down, but my conscience is doing fine."

He added: "I feel that I was convicted for supporting the coalition."

Denmark sent troops to Iraq as part of the US-led coalition of the willing.

France and Germany, on the other hand vehemently opposed the war.

Mr Bjerre, who wears a little American flag on his shirt, accused them of being "disloyal" to the US.

In February he put up signs with bars through the images of people coloured in the French and German flags.

He also reprinted his menus without German translations.

The island is a popular spot with tourists from neighbouring Germany, but there are few French visitors to Fanoe which has a year-round population of 3,300.

Mr Bjerre said he had received many messages of support from the US, including job offers, and did not rule out accepting one of them.

He says he has already lost nearly 50,000 kroner (6,730 euros) because of a drop in business, and because of vandalism to his restaurant.

Funny story, but I assume you're joking with the "this guys rocks" comment. Or would you defend my right, say, to keep Jews out of my restaurant because I object to Israel's policies, and argue that that wasn't racism?

I think that would be a legitimate thing to do. I remember reading about him a while back and thought how cool he was.

I would Sinraken if you kept out Jews

however, if you kept out Israeli citizens only - while I might consider you ignorant, it would be your right to protest the country's actions

.....

and yes Sinraken everyone is an individual and does not necessarily support their nation's policies yadda yadda - but at the same time I think it is considered a form of political protest by the store owner, and to fine him for it is ridiculous

I don't know if I could say that discrimination against random tourists is appropriate. He shouldn't be suprised that he got fined. If I was gonna be in Holland though, I would make a point of stopping by this guy's place and getting a slice Smile.

But it's not racism. He was discriminating against them based on their nationality, not their race. Still illegal though.

Racism is the practice of discriminating against a race for the sole reason that they ARE that race. IE: "I hate black people because their skin is black."

What we have today is culturalism, and in my opinion there's nothing wrong with disliking another culture..such as the black urban "hip hop" culture that breeds illiterate thugs.

So if you wanted to keep jews out of your shop for disliking israel's policies...fine with me.

I didn't repost since I think most of the comments were rhetorical. But along the same lines, a lot of you will probably want to donate to this guy's legal defense fund Smile

Al-Jazeera cracker charged
By John Leyden
Posted: 12/06/2003 at 09:52 GMT

A US Web designer has been charged with breaking into DNS servers and rerouting surfers visiting the Web site of Al-Jazeera to a "Let Freedom Ring" patriotic Web site he created,

John William Racine II, of Norco, California, is also accused of intercepting Web email sent to the Arab satellite TV network, AP reports.

The 24 year-old is out on bail pending a Monday court appearance when he will face charges of unlawful interception of an electronic communication and wire fraud.

Prosecutors allege that Racine obtained a password for Al-Jazeera's Web site by posing as a representative of the station in forged requests faxed to Network Solutions, who handed over the vital information without verifying his identity.

This social engineering trick allowed Racine to reroute people visiting Al-Jazeera's site to a Web page containing an outline map of the US superimposed with the Stars and Stripes, and containing the slogan "Let Freedom Ring". Racine also intercepted 300 emails sent to Al-Jazeera between March 25 and 27, prosecutors allege.

A US attorney's spokesman told AP that he expected Racine to plead guilty to the charges. However Racine is yet to enter a plea in the case. His arraignment is due to take place next Monday, June 16.

I don't see the problem here. Are we the only country that has the signs stating "We reserve the right to refuse service"?

Some places don't let you buy their shit if you don't have shoes or a shirt. This guy doesn't want patronage of an ideological nationality. So what? It is his business isn't it?

Like it's been said before this isn't "racism" so any lawyer worth his salt should get him off provided the system there is anything like ours. I don't know shit about the Danish judicial system though.

Actually I take that back.. the term "racism" is not in the lawbooks, it's "discrimination" that is. He would be guilty of discrimination based on national origin, not ethnic background.

While I think it certainly sends a message across, I don't know that refusing to sell some pizza to a few tourists who probably have very little say in their countries' politics is very effective. I know I don't like to be held accountable for the actions of my country I was not in support of... why would I be?

What I thik is funny is that if some French guy did this to Americans everyone would rip him a new a*****e.

Double standards suck

And since when are all Israeli's Jewish, and since when does every Jew agree with Israeli's policies? I'm Jewish, and I don't even have a f*****g clue what Israeli policies are, nor do I really care. If you tried to keep me out of your shop for that here in the good old US of A... looks like you'd be running a shop no more.

Like Vekril said though, if you want to keep all Israeli's out... which include all Israeli citizens, that's fine. You can't target a race for the actions of a country, k Hitler?

As far as stating what is legal and what is not, we have to remember that he is in a totally different country. Our laws do not necessarily convert.

Masturbating a sheep into a glass and giving it to an unsuspecting tourist as a "free sample" is illegal in the United States. It probably isn't in the EU

Exactly. So unless this guy was asking to see passports, he didn't know their nationality either - just what language they were speaking or what they looked like.

Well, Mr Jew if you are talking about targeting millions of people and putting them in ovens, I agree. Thats wrong.

BUT...

If I chose not to serve someone in my establishment thats my choice, or it should be. We are talking about me not SELLING something to you in MY store. Not sure what the laws are over there but here in NY, if I don't want to serve someone, I don't have to. And no one can make me, in fact if they don't leave when I tell them too, I can call the police and have them removed. If they still don't go, they get locked up for trespass, case closed. They can go to civil court and try to sue me, fine. You can sue a ham sandwich here in NY, no biggie.

Now you can go sell some sneakers to anyone you want, I don't care.

just sold a pair for $335, thanks.

And the argument I was making had to do with targeting over a religion for the actions of a country. Of course you can kick any individual out of your store, but if it's because they're catholic because your arch-nemesis grew up in Rome, you better be prepared to find some new morals.

yea haha they were chocolates...

but honestly if you could feel the inside of these shoes you'd want a pair, maybe not with those colors, but it's so cushy the whole insole is like a pillow.

These are getting shipped out to London =P You shoulda seen the line in NYC for 3 days straight down the f*****g block w/ asian people... this crazy guy there that my friend knows was yelling at them all for being asian, it was funny.
