Look at it this way, sir. Why would most people (Paden, in this case) rather take free information handed to them by someone else than actually put forth the effort to search themselves?

Because it liberates them from the responsibility of having to rely on their own abilities to get information. Paden, for instance, is not responsible for his own education in this case. Whoever answers him is. If he were to actually step forward and exercise a little pro-activity, /he/ would be in charge of the information he receives.

But that is too much priority - even for simple things like doing google searches.

One cannot attribute this act to "laziness." On the scale of effort, begging for help on realpoor versus doing your own g*****n google search compares like this:

RealPoor:
1) click "New Post"
2) click in the subject line
3) type "Dungeons and dragons" in subject
4) click the body field, or just hit tab a few times to get there
5) type "What are some good sites i can goto to find the rules and such"
6) click submit
7) wait a few hours, a day, or whatever. keep clicking refresh or checking
your inbox for forum auto-mailer, whatever works.

Search Engine (such as google)
1) click your link icon
2) type in "dungeons and dragons rules"
3) click "Go"

Obviously the second choice is not only easier, but quicker.

He won't pick the second choice, though. It's a mental block for him. Actually, it's an emotional block. It is an emotional block because, by relying only on his own wits (or lack thereof), he is ultimately responsible for meeting his goal. If he were to fail at something as simple as doing a google search, or fail at being able to tell the difference between links reading "Click here for great D&D sales at Amazon.com!" and "The Authoritative Guide to AD&D Rules: 3rd Edition", then he is failing.

If, on the other hand, he is spoon-fed information and that information is wrong, well, hell! That's not HIS fault, is it? f**k no. Why didn't you give him GOOD links? Huh? You know what he wants. Poor Paden. He just can't search google by himself. He NEEDS your help. He's too dumb/lazy/old/weak/black/whatever to do a google search on his own. Isn't he?

No, actually, he's not. But it's a nice illusion of helplessness, isn't it? Very Happy
