Head phones suck in general but even more so if you're gonna utilize or in this case underutilize 5.1 surround sound. Stick to a good satellite system!

The only true 5 channel headphones (afaik) currently on the market are made by Zalman, google it and you'll find them,. Not too expensive, i remember tom's hardware did a review of them a while ago.

Most 5.1 are two speakers trying to synthesize the surround, the zalman's were actually something like 3 speakers per ear.

Snasty, I'm not paying $400+ for "Virtual" surround sound.

And Nobu, I've got 2 Xbox systems. One connected to my Home Theater system in 5.1. And the other in my bedroom with a 19" SVGA monitor to give me HDTV quality. I just want better sound than stereo on my current bedroom setup. I want 5.1 without waking up the wife. Razz

Alton, yes the Zalman's are nice. But mostly made for the PC, as the required setup to get to plug it into a console is Zalman's Headphone Amp and then another 5.1 receiver...
Also, there are other companies, not so widely known that offer the same type of technology as Zalman. Zalman was just the first.
I/O Magic has an 8 speaker headphone (2 for subwoofer) for $99, and there are others...

My only problem is finding one with a fiberoptic connection to go to my xbox. And I want to spend under $150. Razz

Dude headphones are the best for 2 reasons if you live in an appt.

#1- You can have sound effects past midnight loud enough to enjoy the game.

#2- You can listen to porn with sound!

#3- See reason #2.

Agreed.

I think I found some for $99. http://www.listentobelieve.com/hsmt-ac3.asp
I wish I could get better pictures of it, but from what it says should be an "out of the box" solution to connect to the Xbox Fiber connection.
