I play, he doesnt.
We like abalone though, but he is lousy at it. I have a copy signed by the creators. I need to find others to play. I could never get the online to work.

I know the gmae you are talking about too. But forgot the name. It didn't last long in the stores. I'll call some people and see if anyone remembers.

Quite interesting. I started playing chess again about 6 days ago. I have been playing with a buddy who lives two rooms down. He's pretty smart and good for a football player (joke). Anyway, we play about 3-5 games a night and we appear to be about even. My uncle showed me how to play with great skill years and years ago, but due to my lack of playing, my chess skills atrophied. We are trying to get better by playing with 30 seconds a move and have made some really impressive progress. Especially since we initiated the 30 seconds rule over the last 2 days. If anyone wants to get some kind of internet chess going, then I'd love to learn more by loosing, winning, and testing my skills.

As a side note, I have been relating everything to chess lately. In thought process at least.

It's a great game.

I suggest reading a book on basic strategy. Once you have a solid grasp on openings and techniques your game will improve quickly. Playing online is also a great way to get different perspectives on the game.

edit:
oh ya, it was a game first, then was on star trek, then got popular.

I have a pretty good grasp of openings, and development prior to attack. What you said is still quite true. Assuming that I am already good at opennings, I could still learn from the following your comment's instructions.

I haven't played in a long time. I just remember that after getting the hang of a few openings and and techniques (fiancetto, forks, pins, etc) my game took large strides forward.

I played online heavily for a while.

Then i moved to boston and had a few friends at MIT, one of which was like a state chess champion. I got clobbered repeatedly. I sorta gave up after that, realizing that there will always be people miles ahead.. (and computers even further so) and the idea kinda burned me out.

I guess that's true about just about anything though..

I used to be pretty good at chess, but I haven't played in 5 or 6 years. All I can remember is any piece that isn't a pawn is worth 3 pawns (except for the horses, they're equivalent in my experience. So I usually try to take the opponents stronger pieces by baiting them or forcing them to take my pawns thus forcing them into the possition the pawn was preciously in.

Honestly I've become much better at checkers recently since thats the only online strategy game I've cared to play lately.

Now now, muggypoo, you can't get huffy every time someone shows you up at a card/board game.

Hey now, I don't claim even journeyman level in chess, and even with that I can tell how bad that post was.

As far as poker goes. I'll play virtually anyone on realpoor other than plat4pop, for up to $50-$200.

It's been a few years since I played but I was pretty decent when I did. Send me a PM if you're interested in setting up a game.

I've never played much chess, Stratego was my game. I can't remember the last time I lost, it was probably 10 years ago. Nobody even plays me anymore. Sad

Muggy talks a big game of poker, but I could give him a run for his money if we played irl. I'm not much of an online player, it's boring, and I have a job I enjoy already.

I still have Stratego up in my closet I think, it was a pretty good game.

I read a book when I was little on how to play chess, but never actually learned any strategies and therefore, never got any good at it.

My dad is excellent at checkers though.

I suck at chess, even Mugaaz can beat me every time. However, I put Hitachi in checkmate with a pawn

The only thing i dislike about chess is that its hard for players with big differences in skill level to both enjoy themselves. Also I hate playing with a time limit. Besides that I love the game.
