i have been using verizon dsl for nearly a year now, and now they are upping the price unless you sign up for a 1 year contract.
thing is the modem i have isn't even listed on their site anymore (they have 3 types) and if you are a new user you get a wireless one.
My friends that have cable get new modems without a hassle. so i call verizon about signing up for another year and getting a new modem.
the person offers to sell me a new modem for $45 and tells me the only way will get a new one is if the one i have stops working and can not be repaired.
Sad

I'd like to try DSL in my area for gaming response time. Except that I still suck at UT2004, so improving my gaming response time doesn't matter. Hi.

Oh. Also, I can't play shooters without a sneaking suspicion people are using aimbots and wallhacks.

Not always. My DSL blows the cable in my area out of the water. The only Cable offered here is Cox Communications and they blow nutz. Their backbone here is shit, and you would think they would drop a little cheddar to upgrade it with 3 of the largest corporations in the US (and the world for that matter) based within 20 miles of each other. What little bit of s****y lines they have here are so clogged and shared that you get booted from time to time when 2 square miles of teenagers all get out of school at the same time and start to DL their porn.

You'd have to get a new one since Verizon upgraded from Frame to ATM on their network. I'm guessing you have one of the Orkut or Westell Wirespeed's...

I've had Cox in both Los Angeles and now in Tucson...it's blown DSL out of the water in both places. I just did a test on dslreports.com...4040 down, 497 up. a dsl line that does that doesn't even exist.

Using Time Warner Road Runner here in the Southern Tier of New York, the 1st place it was tested. $45 a month, 525k cap, and they let you get new modems whenever they get them. Them and Verizon DSL are having d**k measuring contests and so far the Road Runner has a huge floppy c**k compared to James Earl Jones.

Like I said Cable does not always beat DSL. When I had Cox here I cold not get over 200 k downloads ever, and I had the best package that they offered. My DSL gets me between 600-700k consistantly. My best friend still has his cable and they have since upgraded the service in this area, but I still have much better speeds then he does (usually twice what he gets on average). I guess it just depends on what area you are in.

I would say talk to people in your area that have each and see what they have to say before making a decision.

I just ran a test at dslreports.com also.

4654 down
482 up

Not to shabby for DSL that does not exsist!

I get between 4-6 mb down with my dsl with 786 up..

Cox tries to keep up with the DSL provider here but they are getting blown away...

My parents house has cable and I tried to play games on it and it was painful...painful enough that I put a dial up modem on my machine to see if I could get better rates with it, Cox sucks

Now the local phone company is running fiber to the house should have mine in a couple weeks will be curious to see the speeds then...
