I plan on buying one and have been looking at Cannon with 3.2 MegaPxls. Not looking to drop more than $400 for the camera. I want it small and rugged, the Cannon is small , square and metal.

Any opinions from people who have a digital camera?

Small, square, and rugged?

Are you sure you don't want a Jeep instead?

I've used several and sold them for a few years.

At a minimum, you should buy one with 3 megapixel. Here's a lowdown on brands vs. options... generally... some models are exceptions.

Olympus consistantly takes great pictures and offers average zoom with a decent LCD screen rough on batteries. Smart Media

Sony tends to have lower resolution but excellent zoom and a nice LCD hard on batteries but rechargeables are often standard OR has great res, no zoom, and $$$ but good pics. Depends on series. Memory Stick/Floppy Disk/ CD-RW

Kodak takes good pictures, great resolution vs. price, avg zoom, crappy LCD, avg on batteries. CompactFlash

Nikon takes good pictures, avg LCD, avg Zoom, but offers high end stuff that kicks ass but costs $$. Compact Flash

Fuji takes ok pictures, avg lcd, crappy zoom, good on batteries, good price vs. res. Smart Media

I don't have a lot of advice, since my camera is pretty old at this point. The one big problem I've always had is battery life. Maybe they're a lot better these days, but my olympus camera burns through batteries so fast that that would be one of the main things I'd find out before I bought one.

I bought a Canon digital camera (not the exact one you got, not sure what model) this weekend and it's pretty cool. Easy to use (instruction manual is still shrink-wrapped and I've used most of the features). The 8mb memory card that came with it holds 20 pics on high resolution, but you could get a 64mb card for like 50 bucks so that's not a big deal. The el cheapo batteries that came with it were dead in like 2 hours of screwing around with it, but I replaced them with duracells and they seem to be doing better. Have had some trouble with the download software crashing, dunno if that's the software or my computer but it's been kinda sucky so far.

I'm pretty happy with it so far, but I haven't had it for long.

oh ya 400-425 retail price and thats not including a memory stick. it has an internal 11 mb but doesnt come packaged with an extra stick

you can go look at www.cnet.com and go look at the release date for cameras. theres alot coming out in the next few months. not sure if you want a compact camera or what. Smile

http://www.cameratopia.com/products.asp?product_id=11089&dept_id=1085&shelf=1086

the one I have, its alright on batteries I guess, I dont use it that much. I have had it for about 2 months now, I went to BestBuy and tried out the same model before I decided to buy it off the internet. The 8mb card thing is shit though, doesn't hold many pictures.

I'm not into photography too much, actually none at all. I use mine just to snap a few here and there.
