Within the past few weeks my Powershot S400 has been giving me errors on with my memory cards. I have tried three different brand name cards; a Canon CF 32mb, a Memorex CF 256mb, and a PNY CF 256mb card. Lately, I'll take some pictures and everything works fine. However, the next time I turn the camera on to view my previous pictures; it says there are "no images." Now (using the PNY CF 256mb card as an example), when I go to the screen to actually take the pictures, it says that I only have 100 Pictures left to take. With my settings, I am allowed to hold about 300 pictures on this memory card. Previously, I had about 200 pictures on this card. In a sense, the pictures have not been erased. The space for the pictures is being read/recognized, and used, but they are not being transferred to view on the screen, or when I load them up to the computer. Prior to this, I have not had a single problem with the camera. However, this problem has happened about five times in the past two months. I have had this problem with three different memory cards, all from different brand, including the Canon kind. So it seems safe to say that it is not the CF cards, but rather the camera.
Has anyone else heard of such a thing? This has been p*****g the crap out of me. This is a $400 camera and its having more problems than some s****y $10 one you mail in for, after collecting cereal box tops. Canon is basically telling me I'm out of luck if the camera is not under warrenty (which expired in June btw), which sucks. Are there any places online that are good w/ repiars?

You can buy a memory card reader for about $20 on www.amazon.com
Not the perfect solution, but you could try using that to copy the pictures to your HD.
Have you tried resetting your camera? Mine has an option to restore everything to default - maybe something got corrupted and that could fix it.

The camera has a memory card format thing.
On a plus note Canon e-mailed me back inqurying about the problem again. Hopefully they will be more help a 2nd time around.

They finally got back to me again. They said I have two options:
1) I mail the camera in and they get an estimate on how much it is to fix it. However, there is a $150 labor cover charge right off the bat, not including parts. After the estimate, I can decide if i want them to fix it or not.
2) They said I can upgrade the camera to a Powershot S410 for $175.
Seems that for the extar $25 for a brand new camera, that option might be worth it. Either way I'm going to be out $150+
