Supposedly "major server failures" were to blame and not the CRIA, meaning that Demonoid should be back online very soon.
It's been a hectic last few nights for many of those whom have come to rely on Demonoid as their BitTorrent tracker site mainstay. Between the loss of TorrentSpy, and most recently ISOHunt, to US visitors, the thought that Demonoid had been effectively shut down sent an eerie chill throughout the BitTorrent community.
Now in all fairness, t wouldn't have been too great a leap to buy into the story published on a Dutch news site that the CRIA, the Canadian Recording Industry, had pressured Demonoid's ISP into ceasing to host the site. After all, BREIN, the Dutch anti-piracy group, did do it to them before in the Netherlands.
But, luckily it may just have proved to be a big much to do about nothing after recently receiving an e-mail from a person apparently "in the know."
I won't use his name in order to keep as many details away from prying eyes as possible(Sorry Pisexy), but here is what he told me:
No, Demonoid is NOT being shut down by the CRIA, or anyone else.
That is pure FOD.
It suffered major server failures, and is currently being rebuilt.
I'm still trying to get more details and a few comments from them as to what life's been like during the last few days of this Demonoid "crisis" so stay tuned for an update to the story to appear later.
