I must say that at first try to play D&D I was in real trouble picking the components for my character, figuring out what is useful and what useless. Probably the variety of choices got me so confused and lost, almost panicking, lol. At the end I look at some of them and discovered that some of them can be really useless don’t you think?

Well, what can I say nobody’s perfect, lol. I guess manufacturers followed their rule quantity over quality maybe, throwing all kind of spells weapons in huge numbers on us and not paying attention how useful they are. You can look at the things the other way, sometimes there is possibility that some spells are putted there to get some laugh out of the dark scenery and bloody battles. Like Cause Fear spell, seeing enemy running all disordered like they are not having heads on their shoulders, being worst chickens in the universe could be fun, even though in general point of view useless spell unless you really get outnumbered in that moment. Bards spells in first level like Detect Secret doors, Expeditious Retreat are also labeled as useless ones. But I guess on everyone’s list is the spell that can be found in more then one class spell menu is Summon Monster spell that apart giving you the pet for few moments which maybe solves your moments of being lonely in this game doesn’t do much in first few levels. From Clerics list Nimbus of Light and Doom are pretty useless by the reviews of some gamers. Swim as a skill is rated as pointless, and actually the major issue that you need to figure out is which component is needed for which spell so you don’t get stuck with the spell which component is hard to be found or too expensive like stoneskin even though it can be found easily. I guess there is more of this kind of examples in D&D game, but I think the ones that are mentioned right now are more then enough.
