|
|
|
Anyone know what the software does when it takes a DVD9 movie, and compresses and copies to one 4.7GB DVD+/-R disc?
What quality am I losing?
I'm currently using Intervideo DVD Copy 2.5, and it automatically does its compression thing to fit all of the contents of the DVD movie down to one DVDR, including all available sound options (AC3, DTS, other languages).
From looking at a few scenes, I can't tell the difference in the quality of the picture.
Does anyone know?

Watch something with fast-paced, high-contrast scenes. Like white blobs moving really fast around a black background. Maybe some space battles or something. Should see lots of video artifacts like s****y jpg compression.

Okay then...
So, is there one program that does the compression better than others?

The daddy of extraction/compression is DVDshrink. It also ties in with the daddy of all recording software, Nero6. I have burned more than 100 DVD's with it, and not one coaster so far.

For direct DVD copying Mynd's system works pretty well for sure. For converting a Divx, or other video file to DVD I really suggest using TMPEnc to create an MPG2 file then using DVD-Lab to create the DVD itself including menu's, chapters in the video, and other more professional items to it. Then use Nero to burn after you compile it.

i like dvd2one better than shrink, especially when the movie is shorter (like 2 hours) shrink is superior if you were doing like lotr tho... either way you shouldnt notice much difference.. its very slight but i havent notice artifacting yet.. with either one.
