Is there any substantial reason to get a DVD Burner that is SATA capable? Faster burn speeds?

not really any reason atm. not even hard drives show any benfit worth going sata right now

At the expense of backward compatibility: Windows 2000 doesn't support SATA, you need a driver disk.
