Typical. Let others do the hard part then whine when they don't let you have a share in the pie. Tough shit.

yeah but the US should have just been graceful and just let them bid. why make things worse than they are. we are the superpower, so we should also be more forgiving.

You know the biggest reason this was done, don't you? So that US troops don't have to protect thousands of civilian employees from countries that aren't willing to do it themselves. Clearly we have enough on our plate in Iraq without having to ensure the security of thousands of people who's countries attempted to block the invasion. The fact that the biggest squealers are already France, Germany, Russia only underlines the fact that they want the contracts for the finances, not to 'help iraq'. f**k 'em with glowing red hot poker.

I just think its sad that the US government has to be this petty.
Teddy said walk softly but carry a big stick.
well now we're walking loudly with the big stick on display.

You sound like they are just blowing air and these positions are just that, hot air positions.
They are talking about who gets US tax dollars. I don't want any of my tax money going to france, germany, russia or canada. Its that simple.

yes i understand that, but that is not the official stance. they said it "is necessary for the protection of the essential security interests of the United States.''
which sounds like a lame excuse. they should have just said "s***w you guys, we did all the hard work you b*****s can go back home"
and it would have been a gracious gesture to ease the fighting, but this only escalates the worldwide resentment toward the US

Saying "s***w you guys, we did all the hard work you b*****s can go back home" would go over better than "it is necessary for the protection of the essential security interests of the United States."?

no, if they were gonna just be stubborn they should at least be honest.
the "better" thing to do is say, "I hope we can work together in the future" and just let them bid.

Security is part of the reason, but not the only part. Why should the US forces secure areas for french companies to feel safe to work in? The official stance mentions many factors, pay more attention.
Escalates resentment? LOL
We are the USA, we will always be resented.
f**k em.

This situation is a good example of why no country should sacrifice national sovereignty to the international community. Every person, city, county, state and nation has its own interests. Now because of trade treaties (in which the US unwisely sacrificed national trade policy) other nations can "sue" us to obey their wishes. No other nation or coalition comes close to matching America's military capability, but economic bodies like the EU have the power to flex economic muscle that is potentially damaging to the US economy. The fact that we simply allow other nations to claim something like this is illegal is ridiculous...and the fault of our own economic policies of globalization. Of course, we could always just reverse those policies.

The problem is this:
it wouldnt ease the tension, if we conceding and gave them the contracts they would take it for granted and say nothing about our gratioussness.
At this point in history short of saving the world, the UsScan do no right in foreign powers eyes , cept behind closed doors when they want our money to fund solving of various problems that they created in thier countries.
In the puiblic eye we are satan. Wierd how we are so evil and bad yet im sure our emabassies worldwide are beseiged by petitions for visas to live and work here.
Im sure if we gave greencards to fat scots, Eduin would be the first f****r on the plane to America too.

It's all part of the "master plan", much like how the U.S. is paying $1.97 a gallon for gasoline in Iraq from a contractor who will not be revealed "in the interest of national security".

After watching several shows and acquiring more information about this topic, I am of two minds on the subject...
I feel the Bush administration was correct in barring France and Russia from bidding but If feel they reached too far when they included Germany and Canada...
France and Russia have flat out said they will in NO WAY help us do ANY DAMN THING in Iraq.. yet they want to reap the financial benefits of the war? BEEP .. sorry.. wrong answer... They made their proverbial bed, they can lay in it.
Canada on the other hand has already given over 100 million $$ to help rebuild Iraq and while they were pansies about the war they have started coming around. Furthermore Canada is our biggest trade company and buys a SHITLOAD of American products. They are also flat broke (thanks Socialism) and could really use the injection of fresh cash with the dawning of a new government (which is happening now.)
Germany, while not as giving as Canada has always let us use their airspace and bases to launch attacks and it is in a key position for many European attacks. Since the close of the war they have come around as well and offered to help in many areas.
I feel we should have, MOST DEFINATLY barred France and Russia (let them rot) but to extend it to Germany and Canda was a bit too much...

I dont consider it a priviledge to use germany's airspace since we have to pay for the land our bases are on and our bases have basically driven local economies around them for many many years..Germany can kiss my ass and the day we pull our boys out of those bases in Europe is a day for Celebration.

this again strengthens the theory as to why bush even decided to attack Iraq in the first place.
1. His daddy couldnt take him down, so now Pretzel king tries. lol@that though. still havent taken him down.
2. Oil
3. And now, business. moolah, money, dollah, $$.
