Has anyone ever read Contact?
You know it's odd... I watched the movie, and it floored me. I walked out of the theatre and all I could do was think.. it touched on so many issues that were inconceivably complex......
I just finished reading the the paperback edition of Contact. Jesus Christ on a skewer... I almost feel cheated now, I'm almost angry that I watched the movie to begin with it falls so drastically and pathetically short of the real story... anyone else have a similar experience?
-Nah-

Contact was a really pathetic attempt at adaptation to the big screen. I tell everyone who likes the movie or thinks they know what happened to read the book, then they'll see how it barely tried.
It's a difficult business, for every one good adaptation I see there's 20 crappy ones.

It was about the crazy white monkey in the Congo.
Most book to movie transistions don't go so well. There are alwasy exceptions though. Jurrasic Park was very good (book was still better) and The Shining come to mind. I really liked Contact when i saw it on video, watched it multiple times to try and graspe everything that was said. After hearing everyone speak so highly of the book, I think I'll check it out when i head on vacation. Readin' on the beech oooooh yeah

Contact was an amazing book. An interesting tidbit is that he tried to have Contact created as a movie for like 20 years before it finally happened...and they managed to s***w it up when they finally got it done.
Anyone that felt that the movie had quality should definitely read the book. It's so much better.

most books are always better then the movie, its pretty much a given.
though once in a while ya get one that amazes you because the book actually comes to life and stays true to the story, clan of the cavebear was very very well done *darrel hanna did awesome*
another that really surprised me since it was made for tv was intencity by dean koontz (what the hell is that actors name again) he did an amazing job and watching the movie was as close to reading the book as ya get, very well done.

I had a similar experience with American Psycho, I still really like the movie. But my god, there was so much more insanity in that book. Like the part where he bites the chicks labia off, and of course the rats . . . glad I read it.

Contact was one of my favorite movies when I saw it, then I read the book. I agree, it was much better. Now I can't remember all the detail of the book that differed, I will have to read it again.
I heard someone on an NPR radio show about movies list contact as one of the all time worst movies. Although the book was much better, I still don't think the movie deserved that bad of a review!
