I haven't played since Dec of 02, or my druid since Sept '01.
Is the game fun again? When I stopped playing I was getting the feeling the high end game wasn't like it used to, and I just played my alts or on the pvp servers.
So if I do come back, which character should I play? I've got a 56 druid and 46 mage fully equipped, or a 42 rogue stripped. And will someone let me in their guild, and help me get back up to ranks?

Both druids and mages are great. I recommend buying LDoN and LoY and sticking with those two. PoP is neat if you can get in on some pick-up flagging. Pretty much everything in the game except GoD is trivial now. And even that expansion is like anything else. It's not "if" you can kill something or get a certain loot, but, "when?"
At the core, it's the same game as ever. LFG tool, Find tool, tradeskill UI, focus items, chat channels, and really nic egear from LDoN sure do help tho.

I just came back after a long break (Only had up to luclin as well) and Im having a blast. I have a 60 shaman and even though im fairly behind on gear, im still having fun.
The game has completely changed though and is nothing like when you last played. There are quite a few high level idiots that dont know shit because you can get from 1-60 fairly quickly.

personally, i love god, as a bard... because stuff does Major DPS, and has low hps, which means when i'm kiting, i can do 5% hp to some dark blue mobs, with only 3 dots *134 each*
If you're a tank, or another must-group person, you might not like it unless you can get groups easily =/ but then! you might like it because of the tribute points, which imo are the absolute best thing to happen to eq since kunark..
and leadership aas! you can now choose to chop off a 20% chunk of your exp, to get neat aas that help your group, or your raid do stuffs!
