Just when I thought the hypocrisy couldn't get any worse, I found this tasty little item on CNN.com:
(CNN) Sinclair Broadcast Group has ordered its eight ABC stations not to broadcast Friday's "Nightline"...
So what are these guys worked up about, you ask. An unpixelated segment on nude beaches? A hard-hitting expose on the Victoria's Secret catalog? Nope. Ted Koppel's crime against decency will be to broadcast the names and photos of 500 dead American soldiers.
Do I need to tell you that Sinclair Broadcast Group is run by loyal Republicans?
Lest you think that this is about privacy or some other high-minded ideal, here is what the Sinclair people have to say: "Mr. Koppel and 'Nightline' are hiding behind this so-called tribute in an effort to highlight only one aspect of the war effort and in doing so to influence public opinion against the military action in Iraq." Compared to the Bushies, you have to admire the candor of these guys -- they readily admit that they are afraid of influencing public opinion against the war.
They certainly aren't alone in the sentiment. It is an article of faith on the Right that the media is undermining the war effort by giving a biased portrayal of events in Iraq. I've never understood their beef, but I think it has something to do with the media acknowledging the brute fact that American soldiers (as well as Iraqi civilians) are dying. Yep, these right-wingers love the military, at least until its members have the temerity to go and die. Then they become a dirty little secret.
But this sentiment even goes beyond the war -- this is an ideological regime that believes that information is dangerous. From Iraq to 9/11 to global warming, the mantra that we hear from the White House and their allies is "You don't need to know. Don't ask why. It's true because I said so..." Fortunately, the ornery American people may just decide they've had enough. |
Apparently they're so scared of the truth, that they've threatened 8 tv station in the country! I guess not only Realpoorian conservatives are interested in the suppression of free speech. I don't recall any "liberal leftists" suing Anna Coulter over her numerous slanderous statements. Conservatives are exposing their true nature. You all must be proud.

| Quote: | Sinclair spokesman and commentator Mark Hyman accused Koppel of attempting to “disguise political speech as news content” in an interview published Friday by the Baltimore Sun. He added, “There is no journalistic value here.”
However, it turns out that Sinclair officials don’t always practice the conservative, family values that they preach.
In 1996, the company’s outspoken CEO, David D. Smith, was arrested by Baltimore undercover officers and charged with a misdemeanor **** offense involving a female p********e.
Smith was reportedly driving a company-owned Mercedes when he was arrested in an undercover sting at a downtown corner frequented by prostitutes. A 31-year-old woman told an undercover officer that “she had just seen her regular date driving in the area,” according to court documents. Police followed the car onto an expressway, where they said they witnessed the woman perform oral **** while Smith drove north. |

It eats me up that we send people into the war, FULLY knowing that they don't combat with pillows or foam combat knives. It's with bullets, explosive ordinace and other effective killing apparatus.
Then we have people with the audacity to prevent the showing of a group of dead. I think that if people are willing to wage war then they should be fully expected to see the ends what ever that may be.
It comes to my mind that the Cabinet of Sweet n Sour Bushies fully know that shit hits the fan in the form of small skirmishes daily over in Iraq results in dead reguardles of age/gender/nationality.
This all stems back to the whole discussion when the media hit with 'Will this be the Bush Nam?' Well, I think he's doing the very best he can to subdue from the average mind that this is in fact very different. Very... hrrm.. censored.

THey should be shown if nothing else to remember them. However if a private company which pays the bills decides something can't be shown on the TV stations they pay for.. it is not goverment censorship..
Its no different than if a moderator on this board deletes a (however unlikely on this board) inappropriate post/thread.
People throw the censorship word around too much... private companies do not owe their employees the right of free speech on company time or when that employee is representing their company.

I move that we make more people who frequent this forum ONLY moderators...I love you Banz but this is not necessary. There's a reason the political forum isn't frequented that much.

I know Banz is better than that.
Also know we can expect more of the same from Kbarr, Confused and the I Am Right brigade.

I appreciate Banzai's attention to detail
ever time Confused spews his b******t - one counter articel goes up too
this seems an equitable trade until Confused learns the basic rules
everyone else is keeping to the political forum
why can't he? He doesn't seem to be stupid (most times) so he must be doing it on purpose
which is weak
keep it up banz
