I am, what you could say, a real Tolkien n**d. I just love the LOTR and the LOTRO game. But I am really confused with the game timeline. When I started to play the game, I noticed several strange things in the story that completely thrown me to the side. Balin was alive, and so was Thorin Oakenshield! They are not supposed to be alive in Lord of the Rings timeline. What am I missing here?

You are not missing anything. Every story begins a number year before the LOTR timeline. It was created so you know what happened before, and so you can complete the whole Tolkien story while you are playing the game. If you start the game as a Hobbit, the Wraiths are prowling around. Therefore, it is in the timeline. Do not worry about the timeline. Just sit back, relax and enjoy playing the game. Enjoy it as millions of other players around the world are. LOTRO rules, big time!
