I have a system that isnt connected ot the interent and I have not installed anything but for some reason my disk space went from 30 gigs to 2 gigs in a matter of hours. Was wondering what could have caused it. I have played some mov and avi files on it, could it be a virus?

right click the folders and click properties at the root of your drive and see where the biggest files are

right. so find out what the files are that's doing that by looking for the biggest folders. and find the files. this will let you know what is the cause of the problem and you can work backwards from there. or jut reinstall windows.

My nephew just had the same thing happen, it was his C:\winNT\Speech Folder.
but it could be other folders.
its a File sharing Virus, basicly you are the server for Apps, files ect. on the net without even knowing, and it also is undetectable with virus scans.
check and see if thats it.
if you cant delete the folder its in cause it says "The file is in use" and its not anything that its suppost to be. thats it

Are you using XP?
I had this problem a while ago where the partition I had the OS installed on kept losing space. If I right click on C: and clicked properties it was saying much more of the disk was being used then it should have. This number was increasing every day without me doing anything. If I ran the defrag test the spaced used that it displayed didnt match up with what was being said in r-click > properties. Was odd.

Holy shit... I've had the same problem. I was wondering... thought I was the only one.
My partition containing the system files (I only made it 2.5gig to begin with) was filling up approximately 30-50meg per day. I'm running advanced server now with no file sharing, so no problem now.

it could be your games, either by saved game or some funky temp files
something i do from time to time
to find odd large files
do a search on the whole drive
don't enter in any names, but click on the
What size is it?
then specify size (in KB)
pick at least and start at 3000
be sure to turn on Show hidden files and folders and stuff

Something similar happened to my Win 98 (First edition) laptop. Somehow the either the FAT or Windows got corrupted and my partition wasn't recognized correctly.

Sounds like a virus to me, hehe..at that rate of speed leads me to see it as that..
easy test tho, unplug your modem and see if it grows(if you're on cable modem or dsl that's always on
