Ok, I'm over a friends house now, and I just gave him faerdal's version of BF1942. The problem is, I got the game and the patches to install just fine, but when I load it to play, it does this.
Screen goes black (as usual... like in EQ)
then screen goes back to desktop again and a small black window pops up and vanishes. Using print screen, I found that the window said "Error" on the top. like... in the bar.
Any idea what might cause this? He's got a 3dfx video card, so I know it should run. he's telling me that some other games that he tries, have the same problem.
thanks.

Ok, aparantly he's running a Voodoo 3 on this system. He says that it's also only an 8 meg card, so that might explain why his comp is slow... but I don't think that would really make the game not even load up. So what do you guys think?
I'm downloading a 3rd party driver from the 3dfx site. Omega drivers. Gonna see if maybe that helps. if not I'll bug you guys again.
EDIT: Oh yeah, aside from that...
This is a Pentium 500 system. hopefully that'll be enough for BF1942.
also, I ran ad-aware and he had 562 "found files". a good 200 of them were gator as well as this thing called tracker something. it was nuts.

they can do Direct 3D
Jon tell him to get a nvidia or nti card, doesn't even have to be the over priced ones, just a $50 one will be good enough to play most games

Ok, the problem is fixed. I came over to his house today and gave him my old GeForce 2. BF1942 works now, as do the other games that he was talking about. nice ^
