I've had comcast for years.
It seems to me that if I have a torrent uploading at super fast speeds (like 30-45 kB) that i lose connection then it resets. the lights on the modem turn off.
Do they do this on purpose? Anyone else have this happening? Or do i need to call them.

A friend of mine had the same thing happening to her.
I do not have this problem
Not sure what could be the cause really

Hers is one of the older surfboards I believe...
I forget and she's not around to ask
I have had two and neither have disconnected because of torrents. The first was an RCA, the one I have now is a SB5120

Calling them wont do anything, they'll check your modem from their end and say everything looks fine, blah blah...
I had the same thing happen to me last summer, anytime I would start to upload something, regardless of the source, I'd get disconnected. Modem would flash, lights would go off, connection would resume after about 30 seconds.
Take your modem into the Comcast building closest to you, tell them its having problems, they'll give you a new one to replace it. I had my other modem from them about 3 years before it started to die and disconnect when ever I'd start uploads. Got the new one, havent had a single problem since.
The one that died on me was an RCA...they said that was actually a pretty common problem after a few years of usage and they'd had a lot of people trading them in for the newer ones. Current one now for me is a Motorola.

I doubt it's any different on that side of the state, but they like to drop us over here if we're downloading/uploading too quickly. If I leave it at about 25-30 up I've got no problems, higher than that overnight and I'll get dropped at least once. They drop us like crazy anytime I download something big on Usenet too. The "Premium" speeds plan doesn't change a thing either, they'll still do it.

It's definitely worth it for double the upload alone. Hell, they'll probably even give you a new modem too. We had to b***h that we "weren't getting our increased speeds" with the old modem, but they came and replaced it.

Verizon Fibros is comming out soon. It's already out in select cities nation-wide and they're running Fiber connections all over the United States as I post this.
$40 a month will get you a 15 mb download / 2mb upload connection, with no bandwidth limits.

It'll be a while before FIOS is here if they do it nationwide. Our phone service is through Qwest and I'm sure we're not priority for Verizon atm.

They're rolling it nationwide but they can't operate in other baby bell territory's so unless Qwest does something to try and compete...
