|
|
|
All the filler news on Christmas and religion, banning carols etc got me to thinking.
I know more people who celebrate Christmas than I do christians.
I know people who flat out don't believe in the christian god who celebrate Christmas, myself included.
When december rolls around, I look forward to celebrating christmas together with my family, and never once mention jesus, god, or anything religious. It's Santa and Rudolph.
Other christians in different parts of the world don't celebrate christmas in the same fashion as americans, or even on the same day.
So why is christmas in America geting so much grief from people, when to a large portion of the nation, it isn't celebrated in a religious fashion?
The christmas eve story of baby jesus in the manger, and santa clause, have nothing at all to do with eachother.
So why are people asking to ban carols....here comes santa clause must really be threatening to people who do choose to practice a religion other than christianity.
I can see some things, but people need to learn the difference between celebrating the birth of gods son, and spending time with your families, giving gifts, and maxing credit cards.
IMO, it's just two completely different holidays that just happen to be celebrated on the same day, and my rights to celebrate as I wish should be accepted. I don't see people asking to ban valentines, memorial day, veterans day, so why ban christmas?

Who is asking to ban carols, the Christians or the ACLU? It makes a huge difference as to their motivations.
Do the Christians want to get rid of the secular Christmas or do the liberals want to get rid of the religious Christmas?
-Nah-

eh was just reading an article about how a jewish boy was forced to sing silent night at school, and it caused some huge fuss....i'd be p****d if i was the kids parents too, silent night is a religious song.
What i'm b*****n for is because alot of people lump the two things together, and it's gonna boil down to people recognizing christmas itself as a religious holiday, which it's not.

December 25th was celebrated as a holiday WAY before "christ" was ever born.

Christmas has obviously been secularized over the past 2 decades. It's now a commercial, secular holiday as well as a religious holiday depending on who you are. What's lame is all the secularists want to claim "the holiday season" as their own by eliminating religion (the basis of Christmas). f*****g bigots.

Ever heard of the nativity? You have right? Your church probably has a nativity scene set up outside.
It has NOTHING to do with baby jesus, Catholics stole it.
It was first known as The nativity festival, held on december 25th before jesus was ever born.
Catholics even went as far as to steal the name and claim it as a part of thier own holiday.
Read a book.

Which book? The nativity is straight out of the bible. December 25th was chosen as Christmas by early Christians because it was palatable to early Roman pagans interested in converting to Christianity (and the true birthdate of Christ has always been unknown). Christmas is the celebration of Christ's birth. This nonsense that Christmas is a pagan holdiday is retarded because Christmas celebrations are related to Christs birth, not Roman gods.

You're close
The Catholics picked that day because of what the pagan festival symbolizes. Why not say the savior was born on the day the rest of the world celebrates first birth on?
The similarities make it easier to cover up other religions holidays. Lets not forget how bad the Catholic church was about forcing it's beliefs on others. It wasn't shit for them to steal a party day, hell they were out commiting genocide on entire countries full of people just because they refused to follow thier religion.
Christ was born on christmas day, in order to save all men, or Christ was born on christmas day to cover up the celebration of a pagan holiday, in order to assimilate more followers?

I'm not close, I was right. Christ's borthday was unknown then as it is now. Christmas was celebrated on December 25th because Christianity was displacing paganism. Christmas replaced its prior pagan celebration. That's not a big secret or conspiracy. You have discovered nothing new and you have not diluted the Christian meaning of Christmas. Welcome to the 2nd century A.D. Only 1800 more years before you catch up to the rest of us.

Christmas is even MORE of a religious holiday in South America. Why do you assume that there is no religious connotation outside of the U.S.?

oh, and we exchange gifts because of Roman Paganism, right? It has nothing to do with gold, frankincense and myrrh.

The original post was about the bleeding heart freedom fighters who want nothing more than to stamp out any public form of religious expression. never said it wasn't celebrated around the globe, I know it is.

I'm sure there's a point here besides bringing up the obvious. Why not claim the sky is blue. Then everyone can say, "Yes it is!" Then you can say, "owned". Then everyone else can look at eachother and shrug.

I played for 7, reached second chair as a sohpmore, spent my junior year in pep band and quit after the 4th replacement instuctor left.
The administration was to blame, and the band still lacks a conpetent instructor.
I'm baffled you had the discipline to play any intrument.
