That's horseshit! Walk into any m***********g Christian church and it's CRAWLING with idols, images, figures, etc. It's all part of the great big hypocrisy that is the Church.
They used to tell us in school it was ok to kneel before a statue of the Virgin because you were not worshipping the statue, but the meaning behind the statue.
Umm... right yeah that makes sense.
-Nah- |
Read the Bible man. Those are not Christian churches dude. Any Church that allows such things is b******t. Plain and simple. Kneeling before any idol is called Blasphemy according to the Bible. |
I have read the f*****g bible, DUDE
I'm Catholic, DUDE
Instead of talking out of your ass, DUDE, walk into a Catholic church and tell me the place isn't dripping with idols and the like, DUDE.
Catholic isn't Christian, all of a sudden, DUDE?
-Nah- |
Idols are things you worship. Like for you, c**k is an idol. |
You mean like you and a quarter-pounder with extra cheese and mayo?
-Nah-

Right... Nice ripoff, lame-o. And those aren't idols in Catholic churches, because they're not worshiped.

Why in the hell does you POPE DUDE say you are Christian then, DUDE? LOL |
I don't know... why don't you ask him for me? What side are you arguing anyways? I'm here telling you that any Catholic (a Christian denomination) church is filled to the brim with idols and other so-called abominations, and you're telling me that it's sacrilege. I'm telling you that therefore this is hypocrisy at it's most obvious and you're telling me to read the Bible, which I have read, in three languages, mind you.
What was your point, again? Are you actually agreeing with me?
The fact is Christianity can't decide if Christmas is a religious holiday or not because after so many millenia of lying to themselves about their motivations and turning a blind eye to their own hypocrisy, they don't know up from down anymore.
DUDE.
-Nah- |
DUDE, I don't believe Christmas is a Christian holiday. That's my point. Reasons are from what I posted in the thread.
/shrug
I guess we are agreeing, nah. I took your original reply post as a defence of catholicism.

The Romans had Saturnalia (festival to the god Saturn) at the end of the year. Since our culture is largely a ripoff of Greco-Roman practices with a Judeo-Christian morality underneath, we (Western culture) combined the "end of the year holidays" and named it Christmas. It's been a while, but if I remember correctly, in South America, the ancient Incan / Mayan gods still get mention during "Christmas." I'm sure in Scandanavian countries there's some mention or Thor or Frehya or whatever the Norse gods were. Humans take an idea and mold it to fit what they already know.
Aspects of American Christmas:
- Pop stars invariably remake Jingle Bells or some other Christmas Song
- Consumer spending skyrockets
- Trees everywhere get covered in lights
- People's houses get covered in lights
- The Christmas tree (I think this is from an old Germanic tradition... O Tannenbaum?)
- The presents deal
I imagine if you go to another country during Christmas your experience will be completely different than here in the USA (depending how much their culture differs from ours... of course Canada or England will be similar since our cultures are so similar). But I'd be interested to see what Christmas is like in Italy for example.
So in conclusion, "Christmas" is the celebration of the birth of Christ, but the holiday we celebrate on December 25th in the USA isn't really Christmas, it just happens to be named Christmas. Similar deal with Easter. What does a f*****g bunny rabbit who lays chocolate eggs have to do with Jesus's resurrection? Nothing, it's another holiday whose significance has been merged with the traditional celebration of fertility... Springtime, time to start breeding & planting crops and all that.
Christmas != American Christmas != Italian Christmas != Russian Christmas != Brazilian Christmas

OK..Christmas is NOT an American holiday. It's a worldwide holiday. Some people celebrate it because they are religious, some celebrate it because it is the traditional thing to do. Bottom line, billions of people around the world celebrate Christmas, even in Japan!
