uhh, my take on that story was that they could not ID the sub's country of origin.
And as i just read the article fully, maybe you should too.

Nah we beat our chest recently so I'm feelin pretty good. Seven of our carrier battle groups passing China was good.

Interesting since the washington post seems to be one of the only news sources that has pinpointed the sub out to be chinese. What great intel they have to tell which type of sub it was.
