actually the person who wrote the book hated the first movie. this movie is supposed to be a lot more true to the book.

unless the word on the street is that this is amazing I'm not sure I want to see it.

I like Depps choices but I also hate when classics are remade.

found this bit of trivia
Quote:
Screenwriter John August had never even seen Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971) when asked by Tim Burton to write the script. After finishing the screenplay, he finally watched the 1971 version, only to be surprised at how much darker the "family film" was to his own.

I'll watch it for Depp, in a purely heterosexual way. Two of my favorites are the carribean flick and Fear and Loathing - this seems like a rather intoxicated theme as well.

Looks great I think, I really like Wonka's costume and Depp's makeup.

Also, check out Finding Neverland. The kid who is playing Charlie plays Peter in that and that movie is seriously the best of the year IMO.

This one's not technically a remake...
the original movie was so far from the story in the book it was almost scary.
And yes Dahl said many times over he didn't like the first movie at all.

To try and compair Willie Wonka and the Chcoolate Factory to Dahl's written works is about the same as Disney's Alice In Wonderland and the Lewis Carol originals. Sure, they both have a lot of similarities to the stories, but there was a LOT of liberties taken.

Both Dahl and Carol's books are filled with very dark humor and not quite as many "pretty pictures" as the movies had....I highly recommend reading both novels, you'll really enjoy them!!

The movie Depp is currently in is rumored to be much more faithful to the book itself. I'm seriously looking forward to it's release! Not only for the drool factor of Depp being in it, but cause the story is so awesome too.

Gene Wilder is the ONLY reason the first one was even worth spitting at, however becuase of him its one of the coolest movies I own.... Could you imagine that movie as just a bunch of cheesy songs?

However this trailor doesnt look like what i was expecting after hearing the buz for this movie for about a year now. Maybe it'll be good hell johnny depp is defintly the best actor out there imo.

This might be closer to the book... but so far the trailer makes it look like a huge let down... I been looking forward to something darker than the first... the music in the trailer sounds like it should be playing on teletubbies.... if Tim Burton f***s this up I swear I'll hunt down that ass baggedy fucktard and cut his heart out with a nightmare before christmas DVD...
