actually the person who wrote the book hated the first movie. this movie is supposed to be a lot more true to the book.

unless the word on the street is that this is amazing I'm not sure I want to see it.

I like Depps choices but I also hate when classics are remade.

I will be first inline with my daughter to see this. Read the book and saw the original movie way too many times in grammar school. Will be nice to see ompaa lumpas without orange makeup.

found this bit of trivia
Quote:
Screenwriter John August had never even seen Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971) when asked by Tim Burton to write the script. After finishing the screenplay, he finally watched the 1971 version, only to be surprised at how much darker the "family film" was to his own.

I'll watch it for Depp, in a purely heterosexual way. Two of my favorites are the carribean flick and Fear and Loathing - this seems like a rather intoxicated theme as well.

Looks great I think, I really like Wonka's costume and Depp's makeup.

Also, check out Finding Neverland. The kid who is playing Charlie plays Peter in that and that movie is seriously the best of the year IMO.

This one's not technically a remake...
the original movie was so far from the story in the book it was almost scary.
And yes Dahl said many times over he didn't like the first movie at all.

To try and compair Willie Wonka and the Chcoolate Factory to Dahl's written works is about the same as Disney's Alice In Wonderland and the Lewis Carol originals. Sure, they both have a lot of similarities to the stories, but there was a LOT of liberties taken.

Both Dahl and Carol's books are filled with very dark humor and not quite as many "pretty pictures" as the movies had....I highly recommend reading both novels, you'll really enjoy them!!

The movie Depp is currently in is rumored to be much more faithful to the book itself. I'm seriously looking forward to it's release! Not only for the drool factor of Depp being in it, but cause the story is so awesome too.
