Also, I'm trying to get first-hand info on Guild Wars, which I read good things about but haven't actually played yet. Could someone explain to me how the character creation process goes? As I understand, you get two character classes at the same time, right? And then what, how does the character advance? Is it automatic, through use of abilities in game, or do you accumulate experience and then level up, or what?

This should all be in the game's FAQ, but what the hell… Yes, you do have 2 professions at start, and you can't change them later on. The progression is handled through a system of skills and attributes, which handle what your character can do, and how well. These depend on your initial choice of primary and secondary profession, of course. You upgrade them in game, but not at specific instances, it's more often through training. That would be it, in brief.
