MSNBC staff and news service reports
Updated: 11:20 a.m. ET Oct. 4, 2004WASHINGTON - President Bush is now in a statistical dead heat with Democratic challenger Sen. John Kerry for the Nov. 2 election, in a tightening of the race after the first debate last week, a pair of new polls show.

The USA Today/CNN/Gallup poll of likely voters taken between Friday and Sunday found Bush’s 8 point lead over Kerry in a Sept. 26 poll had evaporated and both candidates would get 49 percent of the vote if the election were held today. Independent Ralph Nader got 1 percent, compared to 3 percent in the previous survey.

That poll above is from Pew Research Center (just FYI). I believe the correct question to ask is, "Why are the two polls different?" Anyway, here is something interesting. Remember the bomber in Iraq blowing up kids? Bryan Suits is an army reservist and is currently serving in Iraq. His job in the US is as a radio journalist and is currently providing call-in reports from Iraq to his workplace (when he has some free time from his first job as a soldier). He was there when that bombing occurred.

This was Brian's last radio show state-side. It is an interesting conversation between a "peace activist" and an Iraqi living in the US. The Iraqi had to flee Iraq when the country was under Sadam.

Here is Brian's Call after the kids were killed by the bomber. He was there and saw it unfold. The bomber drove straight through the group of kids to get to the soldiers.

Another Call from Brian. It shows the contrast between what he sees in the US media versus what he sees in Iraq.
