2 questions actually; do they cost extra, and how does it work towards your bill? if I were to text someone in California or.. Belgium, how does it work compared to if I had called them?

It costs me $2.99 a month but I never use it, or return them. I'm going to cancel that option this week. And no, it does not effect your phone minutes.

depends on your package and company. Sometimes you have unlimited. sometimes you have 100 free. Receives are almost always free. and yes it's way cheaper than country long distance charges

well i was just f*****g around with my parents' phones and realized that they had text messaging capabilities..
If I were to Im, say, r00tus, would it even go on the bill? I've sent 3 IMs, and they are the only 3 ever sent with the plans. EVER

As far as billing, you wont know unless you wait for your bill or call the cell company
Either you have unlimited or limited free sends
or
You pay for each send
Usually if you have to pay though, it's like $0.10 / msg

i'm thinking about getting the AIM service for my cell phone but i dunno.
for nextel customers, we can get unlimited msgs for a small fee and we can get unlimited AIM messages for another fee, or bundle both of them together for ~ $7 i think.
right now i can only receive messages on my phone, but i have no idea who sent them to me and i cannot reply =(
