To all you Canadians out there .

You really get your health benefits for free? That blows my mind. US Doctors make a killing from US citizens on health coverage. I wonder how something like that would go over in the United States

Nothing is free. People with jobs pay for health care for those without jobs. Hence the 50% tax bracket for anyone that makes 50k a year or more.

Yes I am talking out of my ass with these numbers but they aren't far off.

We could go together Khrath.. I could find out about canadian health benefits and you could find out about your ten dollar bill.

It would be a ghetto version of "Harold and Kumar go to whitecastle".

well let me put it this way, it is a far cry better then alot of places but not all things arer covered and not everything is *free*.

we also do need to have health insurance through work to cover the 'extra' things like dental care and eye exams and a multitude of crap as our health care is just the basics really.

what boggles my mind is that it cost me like 24 dollars to have a child yet in the states its thousands and thousands, yet the states rate of teen mothers and mothers on welfare overshadows us ten fold.

we are so over taxed to death its killer though and poverty is a problem wether the current government wishes to acknowledge it or not. i am so looking forward to elections at the end of the month we need to get these freaking liberals outta there asap, like yesterday!

ive never even seen a whitecastle btw, think they are strickly states.

I lived in Canada for a couple of years and got to experience their health care system. It's not bad, but it's not perfect. It's expensive as hell and results in higher taxes, but, the way I look at it anyways - everyone ends up paying for health care at some point, so with it spread around, it ends up not being as much for some, more for others.

The 50% tax bracket is pretty close to the truth, might be even higher, but then again, they don't have a soaring debt with spending that is spiraling out of control while simultaneously reducing taxes for rich people.

The really sucky tax in Canada are the PST and GST. Sales taxes. In Ontario they combined for 15%. It kind of sucked to go into an electronics store to buy a game - with increased prices due to the difference in the Canadian dollar, you could expect to pay $59.99 to $79.99 for a computer game - then tack 15% on it for the government.

Oh well.

Canada is an alright place, the U.S. is an alright place, personally I enjoy the U.S. more.

Medical system suck in Canada, yes its free but someone that win 100k a year pay like 45% in taxes. we also have 7 and 7.5 % in taxes etc...

Also our hospital equipement is crappy, the waiting time for any injury is sick 4 hours+ AND for important surgery you have to wait so long that you have the time to die before an expert can see you.

Many people sell their house to have a member of their family move to the states for a surgery.

So yeah its free....but they suck more of our cash directly from our income so its NOT free, what I like from the US system is that yes you guys pay a lot but job insurance pay back for it no? and besides if you are carefull you dont visit the hospital often, here in canada you pay for other people , the fatasses, those that smoke 2 cigs packets a day, those that drink like pigs etc...

So...our system is far from being free at the end and also our equipement suck and the wait time suck even more.

The best part of the U.S. system was (it's changing) that we pay a crapload to doctors, so a ton moved here and we have the best talent wise.

not changing much lots of doctors/nurses etc...move to the US here on they graduate.

A nurse here win $25/h canadian. They get offers to work in the US at $35/h US AND an appartment paid and also if they have a child they pay kidgarden. So its a huge difference.

I don't know how much it is for a doctor but if its anywere around the same...not a surprise that they move to the US.

The US have the best system because of the cash that can be spent for equipement and to pay the best experts in the world.

Yeah the US system is great if you can find an employer who is not a cheap f**k who refuses to get medical. Yeah as you can tell I am in that area right now with a cheap as f**k boss who annoyes the hell out of me.

And in the past I was in a company that I payed 20 a week and they covered everything else for medical. That was awsome, and I miss it and the main reason I am looking for a new job is health insurance and well more pay. Cheap f**k.

Wrong. It's not free, we pay healthcare benefits. I pay for my medical and dental bi-weekly through work, and those that don't have a job that offers medical coverage can pay for medical through independant sources. As such, it's pretty far from free. It has it's plusses, one of which being the majority of our major medical costs is covered under said healthcare, and it's minuses, such as waiting lists for potentially life saving procedures. It's not perfect, but it's pretty far from sucking.

An example, if I needed a major organ transplant, I get put onto the same waiting list as everyone else in the country, regardless of their status (be it rich or poor, we're all in the same boat). However, if I lived in the US, and needed the same transplant, and I could afford it, I could leapfrog the waiting list and buy my way to the top of the list and be done with it.

There are other medical costs which aren't covered through healthcare as well. But overall, it's a "decent" system, and in my experiences, I can't complain about it at all.

As far as the 45% tax numbers, that's not medical, that's income tax. They aren't the same thing. Our income tax is, for lack of a better term, retarded. But that has little to do with our medical system, as they are seperate entities.

I know that the system is far from free and that income's taxes is not the same thing but at the end you still end up with less cash Razz

Besides, I rarely visit the hospital at all...BUT clinic for medication yes...teeths...eye tests/glasses etc...are all covered but insurance here if you have one.

My medications are 100% covered, teeths are 100% covered unless its a major surgery in the mouth witch is covered at 75% and glasses tests etc.. are all covered at 100%

So in all those without good insurances can go with the gouvernment's insurances they cover medication at I think 75% but hehe many of the expensive medication arent covered from what I heard also you have to pay for any teeth/eye tests problem...and thats the most expensive...

So for someone healty that realy go to the hospital...you sure get screwed here.

Well, 30% is about right for 50k, I'm paying about 35% at about 80k. Even less technically since I shelter my funds via investments and write-offs.

As for healthcare, it is currently in a state of flux as our politicians are toying with the idea of a dual system (free if you want it, pay clinics if you want them) which will benefit those people who need treatment now, and can't afford to wait, but can afford the time to buy.

As for Sales tax, ya 15% sucks, but then again, that only affects the small purchases, things like TVs, etc, if you're stupid enough to buy in your own province, then you deserve to pay the tax. Why pay for a $2000 TV at the local best buy, when you can order one online, from Alberta, and pay just the 7% GST?

As for Tam's comment about getting the liberals out of power, and voting conservative: that's all we need, is a bunch of c**k suckers who are willing to, not only suck George Bush's d**k, but to take a load on the face. I'd rather re-vote in the liberals, have them mis-spend a couple million on ad scandals, than them wasting money on increasing our military, joining illegal wars, and making pot more illegal. It'll cost us more to have them in power then any money the liberals could misspend.
