She was 100% on target. They take advantage of location by ignoring their own military. Someone in the canadian goverenment has discovered that they don't need to support a real military deterrence when they are so close to the USA. Shit, I bet they figured the europeans get away with it, why not us.
Our presence as their neighbor allows them to exist in their current state, its as simple as that.

oh, about the topic.
from what I gather canada is 1 up on us.
Tactically sound, there are few circumstances that any force, other than the U.S., can pose any threat to canada. This allows for much of the government and society as a whole to focus on domestic affiars, letting the U.S. deal with the rest of the world.
Canada provides an alternative to american boundaries, literally and figuratively. The benefits of living in canada surpass living in the United states for many reasons, but many people cannot handle french people AND leaving home.
As I've suggested to everyone I've ever talked to about politics in california:
California, as a whole, should seceed, as we are geographically, economically, and agriculturally sound. Have enormous military components, massive trade, and mexicans (who provide the cheap labor kbarr can tell you all about).
I say the south would be better off independant as well, as the north doesn't need their shit crawling up from the sewers much longer either.
The north can end the ugly process of throwing every last bit of imperialism is has left at the middle east, and can begin the healing process of redneck removal from its roots.
The lovable south, without them the United stated would have no blue collar TV, or someone to laugh at during nationally televised presidential addresses.

You brush/floss/listerine rinse when you wake up.
Floss after you eat or during the day as circumstances allow.
Brush/floss/listerine rinse before you sleep.
See a dentist for cleanings every 4/6 months. If you are doing less than this, you are wrong.

Whats ironic about that, is that on CNN, they were talking about how even in the Sierra's right now, the majority of people living there, have to dog sled to get anywhere.
