I am playing the LOTRO. I have heard something about “monster playâ€. Can I play it, as I know it is, in fact, classic PvP duel? I did not manage to verify that information, so I am turning to you people to tell me. Is that “rumor†true or not? I need to mention that I am a new player, so I do not know exactly how the game works. Do not be mad at me and be gentle. Remember that you once were new.

You heard correct. The LOTRO has not the PvP concept as it is in other games. Because that, the developers give the players opportunity to fight other players if they transform into monsters first. Therefore, PvP becomes player versus player-controlled-monster. This way you can fight the intelligent monsters and have all the disadvantages of classic PvP forgotten. It is brilliant concept. Balancing the classes between PvP and PvE is very hard and with this move, developers have managed to overcome that.

I guess in theory you can monster play all the time if you want, but you would be restricted to the Ettenmoor's zone. You would miss out on all the unbelievable amount of content the game has to offer, but if its what you enjoy, keep doing it.

I completely disagree with Odus. I zipped through that "unbelievable amount of content the game has to offer" in a very short time. After that, all I did was spend time in the ettenmoores (where you're able to monster play). I played both sides. Good fun for a while, but it gets extremely boring after not too long.
