On the mudslide that killed people at a church camp on Christmas day. I suppose God had plans for them in Heaven, so He decided to kill them all in a mudslide on Christmas day. Is that the Christian view? My view is that you're wasting your faith!

Well I'm not a currently practicing Christian, but....
Shit happens. God basically put us here on earth to have our own will. Whatever the f**k happens, happens.

Do you think that once you become a Christian that all bad things automatically stop happening to you?
If this was the case I'm pretty sure most people on the planet would be Christian. I think it is pretty naive to think like that.
God doesn't promise to protect you from bad or evil things. He does promise you his presence and strength to help you cope and deal with misfortune though.
I do believe that things happen for a reason though, sometimes it's just pretty tough to figure out what that reason is.

It amazes me how many christians dont even understand there own faith, most of the churchs teach a bastardized version of christianity edited to get more people into it.. earth is the domain of the devil!

There was a big fire, all the plants burned, the dirt had nothing to hold it in place when the rains turned it into mud.
When the rains came, the dumb people weren't smart enough to head for higher ground.
Deez be da reasons.

Then what's the point?
Do you really need that crutch called religion?

It eats him up. Deep down inside he knows something is missing and it tears him up because he can't figure out what it is.

Heh, not really lol.
I don't care, but it's funny to hear people talk about this mystical (wo)man 'giving them strength.'
I simply can't imagine why you feel the need to believe in something like that.

hehe, the point is, stop defending God when utter shit happens. When a bus full of kids on the way to church camp gets struck by lightning and they all die, feel free to hate your savior instead of making up b******t excuses that put a positive spin on it, i.e., "God must have special plans for them! /HUGZZZZ"
Not all Christians do this, but enough of them do to make me want to slam my fist down in rage!

People keep bringing it up, Kbarr.
/shrug I don't sit around thinking about religion, but I'll throw my two cents in when the subject comes up. I think it's funny stuff.

The same types of people bring it up, the ones who seem anti religion. Then the same anti religion type people, you for example, give their 2 cents.
I think *that* is funny.

I don't understand why you guys get so upset at the mention of God or Chrisitanity or religion. Unless someone is just shoving it down your throat or something alon those lines what does it bother you so much for?
Sometimes the things people hate the most are the things they most envy. I know I am this way sometimes and many of the hardcore atheists I have met seem to be the same way. They are unhappy with their lives and don't feel the satisfaction and happiness that they see some believers that they know feel and I think they are jealous of this. In response they criticize religion and label believers as "closed-minded" or "people with a crutch in their lives", etc.
What are the tings that really p**s you guys off about people believing in God?

And you're allowed to think it's funny, Kbarr.
Now, tell me, which religion is right for you?

I just like the way you anti religion types stroke each other in these threads while still maintaining you "don't care". When its so obvious that in some way, known only to yourselves, you do care.
I was raised catholic but now consider myself agnostic.
Same question back at you.

The typical atheist attitude is very similar to the elitest attitude of most liberals.
Instead of arguing using logic and making intelligent posts, they avoid the topic and use witty one-liners and irrelevent information in order to avoid being embarrassed.

Raised Catholic, probably athiest now. I honestly don't give it any thought, I just know Christianity is hilariously off-base, misguided, and completely wrong for me. I went to a couple of private schools and, if anything, became 'over-educated' in regards to religion.
And as far as what Clev said above: I know alot of people who are envious of things they don't have, but how can that apply to religion? Faith is free, correct? It seems to me that all you need to do to believe... is believe, correct? And you obviously have your reasons if you can't believe, so why would you be envious of those who do?
I think that's a silly retort to those who have no religion. 'You're just envious.' Good stuff.

Read carefully. They are not envious of religion itself, but rather envious of the satisfaction and happiness in life that they see many who have religion have in their lives that they cannot find from anything in their own.
And I'm not trying to be a smart ass here, purely a straight forward question.
What happened in your life that made you decide to become atheist and what about religion do you feel makes it a "crutch" to believers?

I'm perfectly happy with my life though, and I've seen *tons* of Christians out there that are awfully miserable. There's no correlation between religion and happiness, so there's nothing to envy.
Nothing 'happened' in my life to make me become athiest. The more I learned, listened, and watched, the more it became evident to me what the purpose of religion was. I won't preach to ya because, quite frankly, I don't enjoy being preached at myself, but I will say the times that mandated many religious rules and the need for a divine power to enforce are long past.
To be fair, Christianity is certainly not the only religion to cling to an outdated way of thinking. A simple example would be the Jewish ban on eating pork. Back in the day, pigs were literally 'unclean' and difficult to prepare and eat without sickness following, so they were banned. Of course we know now that god wasn't punishing anybody from eating pork, and it's perfectly safe to eat these days (I daresay safer than beef!)... but yet the law remains.
