Can I download LOTRO for free?

Can I download LOTRO for free? A friend of mine told me that he saw somewhere an option and that some people he knows downloaded it. It seems impossible to me that such a game could be without subscription but it would be great if I was wrong. In case there is a subscription, does anyone know how much is it monthly?

Unfortunately, youre not wrong. But your friend also had the right information, a little obsolete, though, because during April there was a unique possibility to download and play LOTRO for free. Of course, it was only for a period of approximately 2 weeks, so I reckon it was something like a trial period. It didnt pay off to those who wanted to play it just during that period, because the game file is 4GB large and its a shame to download it, play it for two weeks and then delete it form your disk. There is a monthly subscription, and its $14.99, just like for any other MMORPG, but there are also three-month, six-month and twelve-month subscriptions which are cheaper in the long run.
