Retailers in Burlingame, Calif. who put yellow ribbons on lampposts through town to show support for the troops in Iraq are being told that the ribbons are offensive and should be taken down, reports the San Mateo Daily Journal.

The complaints come from Palo Alto, Calif. resident Seth Yatovitz, who says the war is illegal and the troops over there are criminals.

“I find the yellow ribbons on city property offensive to my senses, as they are posted in support of violators of international law. I do support our troops that are not involved in illegal activity,” Yatovitz wrote to the Burlingame city council in an email.

Yatovitz said if they are not removed he will begin a “Boycott Burlingame” campaign and consider a lawsuit.

Flabbergasted city officials have not decided how to respond just yet.

Funny you should mention this as I haven't seen a single yellow ribbon yet (no joke, not even one).

They were all over in '91.

I didn't even know they were doing yellow ribbons. Not only haven't I seen any, come to think of it all the flags that appeared during the Afghan conquest seem to have disappeared from bridges and stuff lately.

You're thinking of the back of their customer feedback card. In fact... you even mentioned that's the first you've seen of any support.

well you 2 live in Detroit, aka Mecca, USA

any show of support for the government or the war could be seen as offensive to the local Muslim population and you would be promptly sued by the appropriate politically correct institution

Well, there may be some truth to that, but I do recall the Muslim community being very supportive in '91.

It's kind of a shame, really. Although I'm not 'for' this war, I don't think it's right to disrespect and/or ignore the soldiers fighting it. Alot of them are just kids following orders, striving for a better future for both themselves and all of us.

The story of rescued POW Pfc. Jessica Lynch kinda hits home. A good girl who joined the military because there were very few other opportunities near her hometown and she had realistically no other way to achieve her dream (education to be a schoolteacher). Sounds alot like Graceann, hell in her army pic she really reminds me of Graceann, and I realize it could've very easily been Graceann. I can't imagine the hell her friends and family (not to mention herself) went through for the week she was missing, especially with the stories of how POWs are being treated and finding bloody uniforms, etc. I know I probably wouldn't have gotten a single moment of sleep here.

She's a hero, they're all heroes, and it's a shame politics often blurs that.

Wow, I am surprised no one has called Akronn a tree hugging democratic hippy who should be shot for saying he isn't 'for' the war. I'm sure the flames will come soon enough tho Akronn. As I feel the same way, the war is wrong, but hell I support my troops and wish them the best. I guess next time a muslim drives thru a toll booth in USA he should be shot down too, right? I mean, every muslim is pro-axis of evil and has weapons hidden in their cars to kill all Americans. Wait, I suppose we should allow white americans into federal buildings either because of what happened with Timothy McVay (sp). Hmm, I guess only us close minded white anglo-saxons are the only people on the planet who know what's going on. Look up freedom in the dictionairy and think about what it means. Flame all you want, but I'll only consider thinking about the flames from open minded people.

On the other hand, our troops are doing good, and they will win. I hope they smarten up and realize the iraqi troops (notice i made a difference from troops and citizens) are not going to play by our rules of warfare est circa WW2. If they don't it will result in more unnecessary US casutalties.

This country has so much freedom that morons have extra time leftover to make little waves like this.

Maybe we should ship them all to Monster Island where they can fend for themselves vs. the dinosaurs and Godzillas.

Shoot every muslim that goes through a toll booth in the us? f**k off you dumb c**t.

How about if we just shoot every muslim that tries to go through a toll booth, that when motioned to stop, continues speeding along, when a warning shot is fired, continues to speed along, when the engine is shot at, continutes to speed along.......

Yah... damn those american soldiers for playing it safe after 1 c**k sucker already suicide bombed em.....

Get the f**k out of my country.

Political agenda aside. He does state it's not cool to disrespect the troops fighting. For that I can respect.

Being someone "for" the war. It's this viewpoint of those against the war that I truly find admirable.

NO SHIT

One thing that kind of twisted my anus is that we're making big deals about them not following any "rules of engagement".

lol what the f**k. The United States wouldn't exist if we had followed "rules of engagement"...the Brits would have plowed us the f**k over.

People just need to stfu and realize that there are no rules in warfare.

Actually there are many basic rules, most armys follow them, some don't.

For example, its universal that vehicles and medics with red cross markings are not to be fired on, for obvious reasons.

Its always good to know what you are posting about, so you don't make as ass of yourself. Like you did here.
