Codecs enable your viewer to interpret video.
If the video is crunched with a certain codec that you dont already have, the video usually wont work ( although often you can still get sound)


Anyway this is a good pack, I used it when I couldnt get appleseed to work and it did the trick.
I personally removed all previous codecs when I installed this, and it worked fine.
