We knew it'd happen, and it has... I'm really interested to see how this is handled.
Is China going to go in? Russia? Probably not...
I seriously think NK is going to become a radioactive wasteland soon and we're going to see the first use of a nuclear device against people for the first time in 60 yrs.

It'd be nice if we'd just give them a nuclear pimpslap, launch a baby from the sea and laugh at their defense system, then invite them to the table again to discuss terms... unfortunately this type of "diplomacy" is frowned upon, so likely we'll d**k around for months or years with economic and political sanctions (which will probably only serve to solidify the DPRK's ideology of anti-americanism) then we'll send in the grunts and have some big long campaign to "rebuild Korea in the image of freedom." Many soldiers will die, countless koreans will be shot in the face, homes burned, yadda yadda, and we'll be billions of dollars poorer for the whole affair... just look at the sloppyness in Iraq: its almost undeniable that the only plan was to remove Saddam, the rest they've been making up as they go along... same will probably go with Korea; go in and take out the leader, then stand around and get shot at while contractors getting triple-hazard-pay rebuild all the bridges we took out so that we aren't accused of imperialism. Rather than making their capital city glow in the dark, we'll likely go-in on the ground and try more "nation-building" b******t like we've done numerous times since WWII...
...seems like we can't just kick the shit out of the people we hate, we have to go in and make them "free" while at the same time kicking the shit out of the ones we don't like. the quickest & efficient & cheapest way would be to give them a nuclear how-do-you-do, but odds are the world community of hippies & pinkos would not stomach such an audicious action.

Their reactors are hot atm, thats one of the main reasons they still exist. Crack them open and the fallout will float anywhere the wind is going. No one over there wants that.

Actually, I think nation-building can work with NK. First, the people are trained to be sheep, in fact, this is the sheepiest country on the planet. The people are completely and utterly owned by their great leader. Take out the infrastructure, and they will fall right into place for their new leader.
Why, you ask? They aren't Islamic/Christian/Whatever. You won't find crazy sects of North Koreans running around killing people in the name of God.

I don't think they have the means to hit America with a nuke, otherwise we'd have already taken their factories out.

Best blast done from approx 1 mile up (or is it a half mile?). Diff between ground detonation vs mid-air one is the sphere of hellfire unleashed.

The regime is so repressive, I can honestly say that it's not the fault of the population that their leader is a psycho. They're brainwashed and really too poor/weak to form any sort of rebellion.
This was not the case with the Japanese. They were like a whole nation of Al Qaeda. Complete zealot's who would do anything the emperor said. They were training every man, woman, and child to fight if the US invaded the mainland. We SAVED lives by dropping the bomb, which is why we never really got as much shit as you'd think we'd get for dropping it.
