Cruise up to your local best buy and get cd player/amp head unit, and a set of front and rear speakers. Depending on the car, you may be able to get something in that price range.

Bose audio systems 4 life. If you got the cash, get a Bose. You won't regret it.

If you want bang for your buck, i'd have to say kenwood. its a good head unit, and gives you all sorts of cool features, but if you change out your speakers with it, you can really hear a defined change in bass, and trebel. With about 200-300 you can get yourself a really good head unit, and with the rest you can buy a low end speaker system, or component system if you do decided to save up. but this is just my opinion, i've had better experiences with kenwood, most other, except Sony and Alpine, but those are too steep for my blood

Spend your money on speakers. A new deck isn't going to make a big difference unless you're mostly concerned with looks. Deck is the most visible and easiest thing to steal as well. If you have no CD player at all, get a changer with an RF modulator to hook up to your factory radio. They're pretty cheap these days, and a lot of them will play MP3s now, which means they can hold like 1000 songs.

First you need some Amp cables to hook your Amp up. Then you get these Subs and this Punch Cap so your headlights dont dim all the time. Then just get this Head Unit or any other decent head unit with at least 1 set of RCA pre-outs and you'll be set. When you get more $$ go out and buy all new component speakers and some tweeters
Whatever you decide to get I would reccomend looking on ebay. You can get top quality merchandise for a fraction of what you would pay in a store. Just make sure you buy from people with lots of positive feedback. I've purchased lots of car audio equipment from ebay and never had a problem.
