i have bought my own computer and i have built one. From my expeirence i think u should build one. You are able to customize it to be able to do what u want without all the extra fuss of retail. u can build it from pieces that u want and with accesories that u need, not what Best Buy thinks u should have. Well thats my say on it but whatever its for u to decide.

I would say build it, but if you dont know how then i would say buy it. I got a good deal on my computer, I bought it from a gaming center/Internet cafe that was closing down 400 dollars for the computer and monitor.

I've built like 8 computers for friends/family all just from parts off of Newegg... So i'm sure you know what I voted for.

These days, it is so so easy to build a custom computer. You can post here asking if hardware is compatible and buy everything from www.newegg.com which is a very good and trusted website.

you have to build it... aslong as you know what is compatible with each other i have to say that you can probably make a computer for half the price of some computers already built . + it's much funner and you learn a lot more about them =]

Hmm I would'nt have spare time to build one from scratch, would be pretty cool to make your own though. I'm going with buy.

i would rather buy mine... saves alot of time and frustration..
Building a computer is useless knowledge that i would rather never learn.
And you can always have people customize computers for ya.

building a computer at this time is so easy. everything is plug and play now, no more computer alchemy like 10 years ago.

If you know a lot about computers then building one would be the way to get the best computer for the least amount of money. I know personally that i don't know a lot about computers so if something ever went wrong then i'd have a warranty or a phone number to call to see what the problem is.

I'd defiantly go with a build.
You can get exactly what you want, and usually at a better price then if you buy a package.

I agree with the fact that its better to be custom built.
However, I dont know much about computers so, I went to Best buy and bought the most prettiest one and it works fine for my warcraft.

Build...
You obviously save money and get to know everything that was put in the computer. Even if you have limited knowledge of building computers, there is plenty of sites on the internet that can help you out. Everyone had to start somewhere when building their first computer...

building computers is preferable I would say, if you really have the opportunity and knowledge of getting the best parts for the price. And of course, you need to know how to even do it. You're going to firstly, save money, because you're not paying for labor, and you're going to be able to design your computer so it will take upgrades, as they come, and as you need. And, making a computer easily upgradable will wind up saving you much money in the future.

This is a topic i have debated ALOT in my electronics class at central nine.
Its a plain and simple fact that when you buy a computer about 30% of it is all logo and brand.
Its like a pair or name brand jeans, you know the ones with all the rips and holes in them, you pay about 60-70$ for something you can do yourself. All thats needed is a pair of jeans, wash them 2-3 times and take some sanp paper and run out the areas you wish to have "faded" or holes. Presto saved about 30bucks.
This consept is the same with a computer. You can easily build a computer 2x times the quality of a dell or alien ware computer for 1/4 to 1/2 the price by not being lazy. Order from local shops or online, i personaly like newegg.com, you can find tons of discounts and sales on computer parts and just put it together yourself.
I build a computer every 3-4 years and my parents got a dell brand new for about 1600$ and my 4 year old computer cost 900$ and is better... so just a lil added note there.

Marga makes a very good point that i forgot to mention.
iv kept the same computer and just upgraded as it came out. sooo much cheaper then getting a built pc like gatway that you have to use their items and they make you send it in.

I have always been opt to building a PC, but lately i have seen some pretty good pre-built Gaming Pcs that are basically exactly what you would go buy but less work and hassle of doing the labor.
