That article doesn't say Bush is pulling ahead; it says he pulled ahead in three states. Meanwhile, Kerry leads for the country as a whole:

Democrat John Kerry continues to lead heading into the GOP convention, New Zogby Interactive Presidential Battleground Poll Reveals
Well into the dog days of summer, the race for President of the United States has all but frozen in place, with Democratic challenger John Kerry holding on to a lead he had built with the announcement of his running mate, North Carolina Sen. John Edwards, weeks before their party’s convention last month.
Meanwhile, Republican President George W. Bush has tried without success to make meaningful progress with a heavy barrage of television and radio advertisements in battleground states, combined with an aggressive travel schedule that has taken him coast-to-coast.
Heading into the Republican National Convention next week, little has changed in the minds of voters, the Zogby Interactive battleground poll shows. The collection of polls in 16 key toss-up states shows Mr. Kerry leading, 286 Electoral College votes to 214 Electoral College votes for Mr. Bush.
Not included in the tally are those votes from two states that remain too close to call: Florida, with 27 votes, and Missouri, with 11. Not that several other states are very close to being pure toss-ups as well. It’s just that these two are with mere tenths of a percentage point. Here is the latest Zogby chart of the race. |

The Gallup Organization August 27, 2004
No Change in Presidential Race Despite Attack Ads
The race is tighter among registered voters. Kerry receives 48% support to Bush's 47%, while the numbers were reversed in the Aug. 9-11 poll. In the July 30-Aug. 1 poll, each candidate received 48% support. All these results suggest that little has changed since the Democratic National Convention took place in Boston during the last week in July, and that neither candidate has an advantage among all registered voters.

Wrong, Kerry was 5 points ahead after the convention. Now he's 3 points behind. They're referring to his pre-"bounce" poll numbers. Since the swift boat ads went into effect, Kerry has fallen 8 points.

so.. Gallup is right when you read the +Bush figures but wrong when you read the -Bush figures.
I read it as a difference between registered voters polls and open polls.

You're just interpreting it incorrectly. They compared current figures to pre-convention figures. After the convention Kerry pulled ahead by 5 points. He lost all those points in the past 2 weeks and is now 3 behind. Whether that is directly attributable to the swift boat veterans advertisements is debatable, but Kerry sure seems to agree with me.

Gallup is right when they agree with him and wrong when they don't.
The same applies to everyone else.

Wrong. I have never disagreed with polling results. You're confusing me with Abi. Bush has been several points behind for a couple of weeks. I do acknowledge that certain polls (like the LA Times and NY Times) seem to contain biases as they overstate results in favor of the democrats when compared to other polls.
